Responsibilities

  • Design conceptual, preliminary, and final detailed plans for new, upgraded, and expanded substations
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive physical, electrical, civil, and communication design studies, including calculations, drawings, and specifications
  • Manage material procurement and provide construction and commissioning/startup support through energization
  • Coordinate specialized tasks with diverse subject matter experts across engineering disciplines
  • Mentor and educate less experienced staff while ensuring adherence to fast-paced project schedules
  • Maintain quality assurance and accuracy throughout all project phases

Full Job Description
Electrical Consultants, Inc. (ECI) is a leading power engineering consultant firm that provides engineering, system planning and studies, technical consultation, project management, surveying, environmental planning, commissioning/testing and construction services to electric utilities, energy developers and industrials throughout the U.S. Our experience includes system voltages from 4.16 kV through 765 kV.

ECI has an immediate opening for a substation senior engineer in our Portland, OR office (physically located in Tigard, OR). Responsibilities include the conceptual, preliminary and final detailed design of new, upgraded and expanded substations, including material procurement, construction and commissioning/startup support through energization. Engineering responsibilities include the development and delivery of physical, electrical, civil and communication design studies, calculations, drawings, exhibits and specifications. Senior engineers coordinate the completion of specialized tasks with ECI's subject matter expert discipline groups such as Distribution Studies, Transmission Studies, Grounding Studies, Protection (relay coordination and settings), Civil Engineering, Communication (SCADA Integration), Transmission & Distribution Engineering, Environmental Planning, Surveying, Lands/Right-of-Way, and Project Management/Controls. Diligence in the education and training of less experienced staff is an expectation. Occasional travel required.

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor of Science or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, 10+ years' project and design engineering experience, or an acceptable combination of education and experience; excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong organization and planning skills; ability to work in a team environment; commitment to quality and accuracy; and a willingness to meet fast-paced project schedules. A PE license is preferred. The successful applicant must have an advanced knowledge of power engineering principals, be expert regarding applicable codes, standards and design tools, possess basic project management execution skills, and have the ability to oversee and direct design personnel on a project team. Experience in utility or merchant power industry a plus. Successful applicant may be subject to client mandated drug and background checking and is required to meet the requirements of ECI's auto insurance carrier.
