Your Opportunity

Our Burnaby office has an exciting opportunity for a Protection & Control EIT to join the team. This position offers you the opportunity to work in a project team environment with other engineers and designers involved in the detailed electrical design and project management of high voltage substation and power projects.

The successful candidate will be working in the areas of substations, renewable energy, air & gas insulated substation engineering & equipment between the 5kV to 500kV levels. The candidate should understand substation and power system protection schemes as they relate to the design of protection and control systems.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Develop protection and control engineering drawings for substation and power system applications
  • Design protection schemes, including relay settings, control logic, control room layouts, and panel layouts
  • Prepare complete P&C engineering design packages, including drawings, specifications, and construction work packages
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) reviews of P&C designs and deliverables
  • Prepare technical reports that clearly communicate engineering concepts and meet client requirements
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (e.g., civil, structural, telecom, SCADA) to deliver integrated designs
  • Provide regular progress updates on assigned deliverables and project milestones
  • Support commissioning activities, field engineering, and site troubleshooting
  • Interface directly with clients and provide support in coordinating project execution
  • Support drafting activities, as required, to complete deliverables

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Strong safety mindset and commitment to safe engineering practices
  • Experience developing P&C drawing packages, specifications, and construction documentation for substation projects
  • Understanding of client standards, specifications, and applicable codes and regulations (including Canadian Electrical Code)
  • Ability to support site visits, gather field data, and assist with substation upgrade and expansion projects
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, Bluebeam/Adobe Acrobat, and AutoCAD
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and stakeholders
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and highly organized, with strong time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to support continuous improvement and process optimization initiatives
  • Ability to manage and deliver engineering work in alignment with project schedules and budgets
  • Ability to work closely with engineers, designers, and project leads to meet deliverable timelines
  • Valid driver's license with ability to travel to project sites

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Eligible for registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of relevant P&C experience; experience working with utilities in North America is an asset (BC Hydro experience preferred).

Office Location and Schedule
  • Typical office environment working with computers.
  • Stantec offers a flexible work environment (a hybrid model of working in the office and at home).
  • Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
  • Hybrid work model to work from home is possible.
  • Location - Vancouver / Edmonton / Calgary.

Pay Range:
• Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$78,900.00 - $114,400.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
