Full Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Substation Planner III to join our team at K&A Power Group in Greenville, SC. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting and challenging projects that make a real impact in the energy and utility sectors. Role Expectations:
  • Plan and schedule all activities associated with substation construction and maintenance projects.
  • Develop and define project construction plans and work execution strategies.
  • Plan and sequence complex construction and maintenance activities, including:
  • Equipment outage sequencing
  • Temporary facility installations
  • Clearance and switching requirements
  • Lead planning and scheduling discussions for projects of varying complexity.
  • Coordinate activities with Transmission, Distribution, Generation, Engineering, and Project Management teams.
  • Review and critique isolation procedures and project sequencing plans.
  • Provide peer-level technical support for substation maintenance and construction work.
  • Evaluate and identify clearance boundary requirements and associated risks.
  • Support outage requests, clearance requests, hot-line tags, and switching/tagging processes.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues impacting project execution.
  • Utilize engineering drawings, procedures, and equipment databases to support planning activities.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Lead planning efforts and support other planners within the organization.
  • Develop procedures and detailed work plans that enable safe and error-free execution.
  • Coordinate with leadership and field personnel to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Maintain focus and lead teams effectively under pressure and during complex operational situations.
  • Demonstrate and promote exemplary safety behaviors and safe work practices.
  • Ensure all planned work complies with applicable safety procedures and operational requirements.
  • Support NERC compliance through accurate documentation and timely completion of required activities.
  • Identify, communicate, and mitigate operational risks associated with construction and maintenance work.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, files, and records.
  • Ensure required paperwork is completed and submitted on time.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office and related systems to support planning and reporting activities.
  • Travel to project sites as required using a personal vehicle (mileage reimbursed).


What we're looking for:
  • Minimum 10 years of experience performing transmission line and/or substation maintenance, construction, commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, or operations work.
  • Experience planning and coordinating substation maintenance and/or construction activities.
  • Hands-on experience working in and around electrical substations.
  • Proven ability to independently plan and schedule complex maintenance and construction activities.
  • Strong knowledge of substation equipment, including: Power transformers, Voltage regulators, Circuit breakers, Disconnect switches, Instrument transformers, Bus systems, Related substation apparatus
  • Knowledge of above-grade and below-grade substation facilities and structures.
  • Understanding of equipment installation, maintenance, operation, commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of outage planning, switching and tagging processes, and clearance management.
  • Familiarity with engineering drawings and equipment database systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret: Technical drawings, Construction documents, Procedures, Clearance documentation
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team coordination skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.


Pay Range $40-$46/hour
