As an Intermediate Substation Physical Design Engineer, you'll design the infrastructure that keeps communities connected and supports the growth of renewable energy across Western Canada. Based in one of our Western Canadian offices in Alberta, British Columbia or Saskatoon, you'll work alongside specialists who set industry benchmarks for excellence.

Our Power subsector, a key component of WSP's ERI (Energy, Resources and Industry) sector, supports clients from coast to coast. Your Impact
  • Perform, the detailed design of medium to high voltage utility substations.
  • Perform detailed design of one-line diagrams, general arrangements, elevation views, conduit and cable routing, substation physical layouts, ground grid layouts and equipment details.
  • Perform calculations: Lightning Protection, Battery Sizing, AC Station Service Sizing, Conduit / Cable tray sizing, etc.
  • Develop technical specifications and design criteria.
  • Occasional travel will be required.

  • You bring 5-10 years of hands-on experience designing substations from 15kV to 138kV, with exposure to 230-500kV considered an asset.
  • You excel at transforming a design basis memorandum or scope of work into a complete, coordinated physical design package with minimal oversight.
  • You're comfortable leading multiple brownfield and greenfield projects in parallel while maintaining quality and accuracy..
  • You're experienced with MicroStation or AutoCAD, and exposure to BIM tools such as Inventor, P4A, or Primtech is an asset.
  • You bring an engineering degree or technology diploma in Electrical Engineering, supported by a P.Eng. or P.L.(Eng.) designation or interest in registering.
  • You thrive in collaborative, multidisciplinary environments and are driven by meaningful work that supports communities and energy resiliency.


Compensation
  • (AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT) → $85,100 - $112,800
  • (MB & ON) → $77,700 - $107,000
  • (NB, NL, NS, PEI & QC) → $76,900 - $102,100
