Your Opportunity

Stantec's Power team in western Canada is currently offering exciting opportunities for Electrical Engineers to work on a variety of HV/EHV AC and DC substation projects throughout North America. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team to develop efficient and reliable substations for our clients. You will coordinate the planning and design activities to maintain project schedules and ensure successful project completion. We provide career opportunities that are as unique as you.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Perform engineering studies such as power flow, short circuit, grounding, lightning protection, insulation coordination, TRV, cable ampacity, rigid and flexible bus, lighting, etc.
  • Conduct detailed design of substations, including switchyard layouts, sections, grounding plan/details, cable routing, AC/DC distribution, major equipment specifications, single line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, marking, design calculations, etc.
  • Prepare technical specifications for major equipment, construction, and testing & commissioning.
  • Provide technical support for procurement, construction and commissioning.
  • Assist in preparing proposals, project plans and estimates.
  • Mentor and support junior Engineers.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines during project execution to solve challenging technical issues.
  • Follow internal QA/QC procedures to deliver high quality engineering service to clients.
  • Conduct site visits to verify existing installation, define project scope, prepare for detailed design, and provide construction site supports as required.
  • Drafting work may be required in order to complete deliverables.


Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (specialization in Power Systems) with
  • Experience in PSSE, PSCAD, ETAP, CDEGS, WinIGS, MathCAD is an asset.
  • Field experience in commissioning and testing is an asset.
  • Proven knowledge in Civil/Structural and P&C is an asset.
  • Equipment engineering experience is an asset.
  • Excellent computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and MicroStation.
  • Effective interpersonal skills (written, verbal) are essential to interact with multi-disciplinary teams, suppliers, sub-consultants and build client relationships.
  • Demonstrated capability to efficiently handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Valid driver's license.

Education and Experience
  • Minimum 6 years of proven direct detailed design and engineering experience related to high voltage substations for utilities in North America.
  • Professional Engineer registration (P.Eng) required.

Typical office environment working with computers; Stantec offers a flexible work environment (a hybrid model of working in the office and at home). Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
