Position Title: Substation Automation Support Engineer
Location: Wendell, NC (Remote)
The Automation Technical Support Engineer will be responsible for supporting customers and developing automation, control, and supervision systems using the Siemens automation portfolio, including SICAM (SCC, PAS, A8000, TOOLBOX, DEVICE MANAGER, SICAM 230, SICAM 1703), RUGGEDCOM, and SIPROTEC 4/5.
You will make an impact with the following responsibilities: - Provide technical support for internal and external customers using Siemens SICAM, SIPROTEC, and RUGGEDCOM product lines.
- Develop automation, control, and SCADA systems based on single-line diagrams, schematics, signal lists, and project documentation.
- Develop SCADA applications using Siemens SICAM SCC and SICAM 230.
- Develop customized automation logic using SICAM TOOLBOX, DEVICE MANAGER, and DIGSI engineering software.
- Design, configure, and integrate systems using IEC 61850 (MMS, GOOSE, Process Bus), DNP3, IEC 60870-5-101/103/104, Modbus RTU/TCP, OPC UA/DA, ICCP, SNMP, PRP, HSR, RSTP, PTP, and SNTP.
- Perform Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), commissioning, troubleshooting, and system integration for electrical substations and industrial automation systems.
- Develop reusable engineering templates, standards, and work instructions to improve engineering efficiency and project quality.
- Troubleshoot automation and communication systems using engineering tools such as DIGSI 4/5, SICAM TOOLBOX, SICAM Protocol Test System, and SIPROTEC Digital Twin.
- Support software upgrades, migrations, system expansions, and lifecycle maintenance activities.
- Manage technical support cases from initial analysis through resolution, coordinating activities across engineering teams while serving as the primary technical interface with customers.
- Coordinate escalated technical cases with Siemens Global Headquarters (HQ), working directly with global engineering teams to investigate complex issues, validate solutions, and ensure timely resolution.
- Report process and tool inefficiencies and recommend continuous improvement initiatives.
- Travel to customer sites for commissioning, technical support, troubleshooting, and field activities, with 30% to 50% travel expected based on business and project needs.
You'll win us over by having the following qualifications: Basic Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree.
- 3 plus years of experience in automation, SCADA, or substation automation systems for generation, transmission, distribution, or industrial facilities.
- Proficient in using Siemens SICAM SCC and SICAM 230.
- Open to 25-50% travel.
- Must be eligible to work in the US with no sponsorship now or in the future.
Preferred Qualifications: - SEL protective relays and SEL engineering software.
- SEL RTAC configuration, programming, and commissioning.
- Siemens SIMATIC PLC programming using TIA Portal.
- WinCC Flexible and Siemens HMI development.
- Industrial automation systems and PLC/HMI integration.
- Experience with data centers, power utilities, or industrial automation projects.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity concepts and industrial networking.

The pay range for this position is $102,459 - $175,644. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.

The pay range for this position is $102,459 - $175,644 annually with a target incentive of 10% of the base salary. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
