Full Job Description
Summary:

The Subject Matter Expert I will provide essential clinical expertise to the Medical Product Safety Branch within the Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion. This branch includes teams focused on antibiotic stewardship, medication safety, and blood, organ and other tissue safety.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • To support partner engagement with professional societies and other external organizations.
  • To review and extract clinical information or case data related to outbreaks or medical product safety surveillance.
  • To perform analyses of antibiotic prescribing and appropriateness using large datasets in different healthcare settings and quantify quality measures of appropriate antibiotic use in different patient populations.
  • To support program surveillance and implementation activities.
  • To provide essential clinical stewardship pediatric and/or adult expertise to the Office of Antibiotic Stewardship.
  • To support partner engagement with professional societies.
  • To provide critical review and feedback on proposed analytic plans leveraging surveillance data to quantify and assess appropriateness of antibiotic use, in different populations, in different healthcare settings including transitions of care.
  • To perform analyses of antibiotic prescribing and appropriateness using large datasets in different healthcare settings and quantify quality measures of appropriate antibiotic use in different patient populations.
Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong clinical skills and comfort with clinical terminology
  • Ability to extract relevant clinical information from medical charts or surveillance data
  • Proficiency in translating clinical data for partners and the public
  • Clear communication skills for providing expert guidance and feedback
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based public health environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD with 10 years experience or a MS with 15 years experience.
  • Experience evaluating antibiotic prescribing and appropriateness.
  • Experience analyzing large healthcare, pharmacy, claims, or surveillance datasets. Proficiency with statistical/analytic tools such as SAS, R, Python, or SQL.
  • Experience reviewing analytic plans, methods, and quality measures. Strong communication and experience working with healthcare partners or professional societies.
  • Prior CDC experience.

Pay and Benefits

The annual salary range for this position is $115,000 to $135,000.
