ASSIGNMENT

POSITION
There is one (1) immediate Structural Supervisor position available, eight (8) hours per day, five (5) days per week, twelve (12) months per year. An eligibility list is being established to fill the current vacancy.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Under the Director of the Director of Maintenance and Operations, serves as a working supervisor over assigned structural skilled trades workers and maintenance personnel; trains, supervises, and evaluates the work of assigned employees, plans, estimates, schedules and inspects work to ensure compliance with department procedures and safe working practices; and performs skilled structural maintenance duties in inspection, repair, installation and alteration of carpentry, locksmithing, swimming pools, general maintenance.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The incumbent in this class is responsible for supervising personnel performing skilled work in carpentry, painting, swimming pools, general maintenance, and locksmithing. Such activities include reviewing work requests, estimating cost of labor and materials, locating and ordering parts and material, assigning work and inspecting the work of employees in progress and upon completion. The incumbent must have general knowledge of the processes, methods, and materials used in the various trades, resolves problems in the field, and works with employees to ensure the timely completion of projects.

The class of Structural Supervisor is distinguished from journey level craft classes (e.g., Cabinetmaker/Carpenter, Locksmith, Painter), in that these classes perform skilled trade duties, but do not have formal supervisory responsibilities.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:
Graduation from high school or its equivalency is required. Courses in the structural trades are desirable.

EXPERIENCE:
Three years of full-time journey level experience in one or more of the structural trades (e.g. carpentry, locksmith, painting) is required. Lead worker or supervisory experience is desirable.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATE/LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:
  • A valid, Class C, California Driver License, and a good driving record is required and must be maintained during employment.
  • Completion of the Asbestos Containing Building Material (ACBM) training within the probationary period.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Strength to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; climb ladders and stairs; maintain balance; push, pull, stoop, kneel, crawl, and bend repeatedly; repetitively use fingers, wrists, and hands while twisting or applying pressure; simultaneously use both arms, legs, and hands; reach overhead; hear normal voice conversation; speak clearly; have depth perception and color vision, distinguish shades, see small details and long distances, use a computer, and telephone.

ENVIRONMENT:
Employees in this classification work both inside and outside, in changing temperatures, poorly ventilated areas, inadequate lighting, wet or damp areas, confined spaces, at heights using ladders or scaffolding, with safety hazards and dangerous machinery with moving parts, sharp objects, fumes, loud noises, vibrations, in direct contact with the public, students, and District personnel, and in the absence of direct supervision.

ADVANCED SALARY STEP PLACEMENT
New employees are normally placed at Step A of the appropriate salary range for this classification. If the hiring authority requests advanced salary step placement to the Personnel Director, the new employee's eligibility will be determined in accordance with Personnel Commission Rule and Regulation 17.2.1. The Personnel Commission shall have final approval on any advanced salary step placement requests. Contact the Personnel Commission office for further information if you are hired. Advanced salary placement is only available to employees upon their initial hire.

APPOINTMENT
Candidates who pass all hurdles of the testing process will be placed on an eligibility list in rank order based on final scores including any veteran's / seniority credit. The top three ranks of eligibles who are ready and willing to accept the position shall be referred to the hiring administrator for interview. The eligibility list will be established for SIX (6) months. All new employees are subject to passing a physical examination, tuberculosis test, background review and must provide satisfactory evidence of authorization to work in the United States. Employment start date is contingent upon fingerprinting and criminal background clearance.

In accordance with Education Code 45301, an employee appointed to this class must serve a probationary period of six (6) months or 130 working days of paid service, whichever is longer. No employee shall attain permanent status in the classified service until s/he has completed a probationary period in a class. An employee may be released at any time during the probationary period.

PROCESSING FEE:
New employees will be charged a processing fee (approximately $64) for the cost of fingerprinting. This fee must be paid at the time of processing appointment, with a MONEY ORDER ONLY, payable to RUSD.

VETERANS CREDIT
For entry level classes, veterans with thirty (30) days or more of active service (during a time of war or national emergency) who obtain a passing score shall be allowed an additional credit of five (5) points and disabled veterans receive ten (10) additional points. Entry-level positions are defined as all positions within the classified service when the eligible is first employed by the District, except for positions designated management or senior management. Veterans must supply a copy of their Form DD214 along with their application in order to receive such credit. Veterans credit can only be applied upon initial hire.
VACATION
Effective July 1, 2023, all Confidential/Supervisory employees shall earn their vacation accrual according to the following vacation accrual schedule:
  • In years 1-3 of service, employees earn 1 vacation day per month with a maximum of 12 days per year,
  • In years 4-10 of service, employees earn 1.417 vacation days per month with a maximum of 17 days per year,
  • In years 11-15 of service, employees earn 1.583 vacation days per month with a maximum of 19 days per year,
  • In years 16-17 of service, employees earn 1.750 vacation days per month with a maximum of 21 days per year and
  • In years 18 and beyond, employees earn 2 vacation days per month with a maximum of 24 vacation days per year.
Each increase in vacation allotment specified above starts in the month following the completion of the specified number of years.

HOLIDAYS
For employees who work tweve (12) months, fifteen (15) paid holidays and two (2) floating holidays are granted each calendar year.

SICK LEAVE
One (1) day of sick leave is earned for each full month of service which may be accumulated from year to year. Employees who transfer from another California school district, including a county superintendent of schools office, who have accrued sick leave may request that it be transferred to Rowland Unified School District.

HEALTH INSURANCE
Employees whose regular work assignment is thirty hours or more per week are eligible to participate in the District's insurance program which consists of major medical insurance, dental insurance, vision, life insurance and income protection.

EDUCATIONAL STIPEND
Effective July 1, 2023, all classified Confidential/Supervisory and Classified Management employees who hold a Bachelors or Masters degree in excess of the minimum educational level required for their position shall be provided with one annual stipend which shall be provided as follows:
  • Bachelors Degree: $500 annually or
  • Masters Degree: $1000 annually
