Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a
Structural Engineering Lead (PE) to support a company focused on the development and integration of advanced Navy training systems for the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. This position is
on-site in Dallastown, PA or Orlando, Fl, with travel to project locations as needed. The Structural Engineering Lead will serve as a matrixed technical leader supporting the design, fabrication, integration, and installation of large-scale mechanical and structural systems supporting a high-fidelity naval propulsion plant simulator. This is an opportunity to play a critical role in a long-term Navy modernization effort that directly impacts the training and readiness of future fleet personnel.
Responsibilities for the Structural Engineering Lead include:- Provide structural engineering leadership and technical guidance across a multi-disciplinary team supporting large-scale mechanical and structural installations.
- Review, analyze, and approve structural designs for complex engineered systems, equipment supports, and integrated mechanical structures.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, integration, and installation teams to ensure structural requirements are met throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support design reviews, risk assessments, and engineering decision-making during fabrication, assembly, installation, and commissioning activities.
- Mentor engineering personnel and provide technical direction in a matrixed environment without direct supervisory responsibilities.
Required Qualifications for the Structural Engineering Lead include:- 10+ years of structural engineering experience supporting large mechanical or industrial structures.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of South Carolina with a structural engineering emphasis.
- Experience supporting heavy industrial environments such as power generation facilities, shipbuilding, naval vessels, manufacturing plants, or similar complex mechanical infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of structural analysis, mechanical support structures, and large-scale engineered system installations.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Ability to work on-site and support projects within regulated or defense-related environments.
Preferred Qualifications:- Experience supporting shipboard structures, naval vessel systems, or shipbuilding programs.
- Experience with power plant facilities, propulsion systems, or industrial mechanical infrastructure.
- Background supporting Department of Defense (DoD) programs, defense contractors, or installations.
- Experience working within highly regulated engineering and manufacturing environments.
- Previous involvement in large-scale system integration, installation, or commissioning projects.
