The Role

As the Structural Engineer you will be responsible for setting the direction of the chemical manufacturing site's civil & structural reliability program, managing facility-based capital projects supporting that program, and providing expert guidance to that site and others around civil & structural concerns or questions.

Responsibilities

Civil / Structural Asset Strategy & Reliability
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve the civil and infrastructure life cycle management and capital replacement strategy, including structures, foundations, pipe racks, roads, drainage, containment systems, buildings, and underground utilities
  • Establish asset condition assessment programs (inspections, risk ranking, and degradation mechanisms) to prioritize maintenance, repair, and replacement activities
  • Define long-term capital needs, risk mitigation plans, and life cycle cost optimization strategies for civil and structural assets
  • Provide technical leadership in identifying "bad actor" assets and developing corrective and preventive solutions
  • Collaborate with Reliability and Maintenance teams to integrate civil assets into site asset health monitoring and reliability programs

Project Engineering & Execution
  • Serve as Project Engineer for civil/structural capital and expense projects, from scope development through design, construction, and closeout
  • Develop project scopes, cost estimates, schedules, and execution strategies in alignment with site capital governance
  • Lead design-based development and technical reviews; ensure constructability, maintainability, and long-term asset integrity
  • Coordinate with internal Project Management, external engineering firms, and construction contractors to ensure safe and high-quality execution
  • Provide field support during construction, including issue resolution, design clarifications, QA/QC oversight, and turnover support

Engineering Standards, Codes & Compliance
  • Serve as the global technical authority for civil and structural engineering standards, specifications, and best practices
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations (ACI, AISC, ASCE, IBC, OSHA, FEMA, local jurisdiction requirements, and company standards)
  • Support site audits, inspections, and regulatory inquiries related to civil and structural assets
  • Participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), Management of Change (MOC), and incident investigations where civil or structural risks are involved

Safety & Risk Management
  • Embed safety into all phases of engineering, design, and construction execution
  • Identify and mitigate civil and structural risks that could impact personnel safety, environmental performance, or business continuity
  • Act as a visible safety leader for both plant and contractor engineering and construction activities

Cross Functional Collaboration & Technical Leadership
  • Partner with Operations and Maintenance to align asset strategies with operating needs and production risks
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to engineers, designers, and inspectors
  • Act as a key technical advisor to site leadership on infrastructure risk, capital planning, and long-term site sustainability
