Context
The main mission is to ensure the structural integrity of passenger rail cars through inspection, analysis, design verification and production support.
Missions/Main Duties
- Visit railcar overhaul shops to inspect, measure and gather data on damaged passenger railcars;
- Perform structural engineering calculations;
- Perform manual calculations of stressed skin structures and welded steel assemblies;
- Prepare freebody diagrams - balance diagrams of railcar structural components;
- Occasionally: Use finite element analysis results and manual calculations to verify the safety margins of components and connections;
- Check that fabrication drawings accurately represent the engineering design intent;
- Support production as needed;
- Other related tasks as necessary.
Profile/Skills
Training: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Civil (Structural) engineering and member of OIQ.
Years of experience: 3 to 5 years experience in a similar role. Experience in railway industry a strong asset.
Technical competiencies:
- Relevant experience in manual calculation and structural design is preferred;
- Experience in the railway industry is an asset;
- Interest in stress analysis, structural engineering and strength of materials;
- The candidate must have a good knowledge of French and English;
- The candidate must be able to produce reports and presentations summarizing the analyses performed, in both French and English;
Personal qualities and soft skills:
- The candidate must demonstrate autonomy and dynamism;
- The candidate shall demonstrate good attention to details.
