Job Summary:The Structural Engineer will serve as the in-house technical authority for all structural systems across Quick Quack's ground-up greenfield car wash development program. The Structural Engineer will own the master structural prototype drawing set and Revit model, adapt it to site-specific geotechnical and code conditions, coordinate with the architectural and MEP disciplines for clash-free models, review all structural output before city submittal, and respond directly to structural plan check comments. The role requires professional licensure in multiple states and a track record producing structural construction documents for commercial prototype or ground-up retail buildings.
Desired Duties and Responsibilities:- Serve as the structural discipline lead and sole technical authority for all structural systems across the active development portfolio of 100+ concurrent projects.
- Own and maintain the master structural Revit prototype model, including foundation systems, lateral systems, gravity framing, roof structure, and connection details; issue versioned updates on a quarterly review cycle with the Senior Architect and BIM team.
- Adapt the structural prototype for each new site: review geotechnical reports, perform foundation design, adjust lateral system for local seismic and wind exposure categories, and confirm structural framing for site-specific conditions before BIM Technicians produce the drawing set.
- Perform final technical review and approval of all structural drawing sets produced by BIM Technicians before submittal to the city; no structural package goes to a building department without your sign-off.
- Stamp and seal structural construction documents in all states where Quick Quack holds active projects; pursue reciprocal PE licensure in new markets as the pipeline expands.
- Respond to all structural plan check comments directly; coordinate with the Project Architect on architectural comment responses and with the MEP Engineer on discipline conflicts.
- Run and review clash detection between structural, MEP, and architectural Revit models before each submittal; resolve all structural-originating conflicts before the drawing set leaves the team.
- Establish and maintain structural engineering standards, design criteria, and specifications that ensure consistency, code compliance, and constructability across all sites.
- Review geotechnical reports for all new sites and provide design recommendations to the Project Architect and Director of Design regarding foundation type, bearing capacity, and special inspection requirements.
- Coordinate with civil engineering firms on site-specific foundation conditions, retaining wall requirements, and site utility conflicts with structural elements.
- Track structural-related field change orders on completed and under-construction sites; incorporate lessons learned into the prototype model and specifications on a quarterly basis.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to BIM Technicians working on structural model production.
- Monitor evolving structural codes including IBC, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC, and NDS; integrate code cycle updates into the prototype and design standards proactively.
Qualifications and Requirements:- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required; Master's degree preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required; SE license preferred; currently licensed in a minimum of 3 states with demonstrated willingness and plan to pursue additional state licensure as the pipeline requires.
- 5+ years of experience producing structural construction documents for commercial buildings; experience with prototype retail, restaurant, car wash, or light commercial ground-up buildings strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of wood, steel, masonry, and concrete structural systems as applied to small-to-medium commercial ground-up construction.
- In-depth knowledge of applicable codes and standards including IBC, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC 360/341, NDS, and applicable local amendments.
- Experience performing geotechnical report review and translating soils recommendations into structural foundation design.
- Proficiency in Revit required; AutoCAD proficiency required; experience managing and versioning a prototype Revit structural model strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in structural analysis software (RISA, SAP2000, ETABS, or equivalent) required.
- Demonstrated ability to manage structural design across a high volume of concurrent projects simultaneously (15+ active sites).
- Strong communication skills; ability to respond directly to plan check comments and represent the company in technical interactions with building departments and special inspectors.
- Detail-oriented working style with strong organizational skills for managing a large active portfolio.
- Willingness to travel 15-20% of time for site visits, pre-application meetings, and building department interactions.
- Remote position; must be available and present during standard business hours (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM PST) for cross-functional collaboration with the design and entitlements team.
- Must be willing to appear on camera during video meetings and virtual collaboration sessions.
