Full Job Description
About the Project:

The Eglinton Crosstown West Extension will bring the Eglinton Crosstown LRT another 9.2 kilometers farther west, creating a continuous rapid transit line from the east end of Toronto into Mississauga. The Stations, Rail, and Systems (SRS) package encompasses the design, construction, integration, and commissioning of key project components.

Position Overview:

The Structural Coordinator (Means & Methods) is responsible for supporting the planning, review, coordination, and implementation of temporary works, construction methodologies, and structural means and methods associated with major rail transit infrastructure projects delivered by Trillium Rail Partners (TRP).

Working within a complex design-build / P3 environment, this role serves as the critical link between design and construction teams, ensuring temporary works and construction methodologies are safe, technically sound, practical, and aligned with project requirements. The Structural Coordinator (Means & Methods) supports the delivery of stations, tunnels, guideways, shafts, portals, retaining structures, and ancillary facilities through effective constructability planning and structural coordination.

The Structural Coordinator (Means & Methods) works closely with engineering, construction, safety, and project controls teams to develop and coordinate temporary works solutions and construction staging plans that support efficient project execution while maintaining safety, quality, and schedule objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Means & Methods Coordination
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of construction means and methods for major civil, structural, tunnel, station, and guideway works.
  • Support planning of construction sequencing, staging, temporary support systems, and work access strategies.
  • Review construction methodologies to ensure alignment with project requirements, constructability constraints, and safety standards.
  • Assist project teams in identifying innovative and efficient construction approaches.

Temporary Works Coordination
  • Coordinate temporary works designs, including shoring systems, excavation support systems, formwork, falsework, temporary foundations, access platforms, lifting systems, and structural bracing.
  • Review temporary works submissions, calculations, drawings, and engineering reports for compliance with project requirements.
  • Ensure temporary works interfaces are properly coordinated with permanent works design and construction activities.
  • Monitor temporary works implementation and support field issue resolution.

Structural Design & Construction Interface
  • Act as a liaison between design consultants, construction teams, subcontractors, and field personnel regarding structural means and methods.
  • Participate in constructability reviews and multidisciplinary design coordination meetings.
  • Support resolution of technical issues affecting construction sequencing, temporary works, and structural installation activities.
  • Coordinate implementation of approved design revisions impacting construction methodologies.

Field Support & Construction Coordination
  • Conduct site reviews and inspections to verify temporary works and construction activities are implemented in accordance with approved plans.
  • Support field teams in resolving structural and constructability challenges.
  • Monitor critical construction activities involving lifting operations, temporary structures, excavation support systems, and structural installations.
  • Assist in identifying and mitigating construction risks associated with temporary works.

Safety, Quality & Risk Management
  • Promote a strong safety culture with a focus on temporary works safety, excavation support, lifting operations, and structural stability.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering standards, project specifications, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Participate in risk assessments, hazard reviews, and constructability workshops.
  • Support quality assurance and quality control activities related to temporary works and structural construction.

Project Controls & Documentation
  • Support preparation and review of method statements, work plans, lifting plans, and technical submittals.
  • Maintain records of temporary works approvals, inspections, and design revisions.
  • Provide technical input into project schedules, construction planning, and risk management activities.
  • Support reporting on temporary works status, construction progress, and key risks.

Qualifications:
  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) is considered an asset.
  • Experience supporting temporary works, construction engineering, means and methods, or heavy civil construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of structural systems, construction sequencing, and temporary works design principles.
  • Experience with major infrastructure, transit, tunnel, bridge, or heavy civil projects is highly desirable.
  • Experience in design-build and/or P3 project environments is considered an asset.
  • Strong understanding of construction means and methods, temporary works, and structural engineering principles.
  • Excellent technical coordination and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to evaluate constructability challenges and develop practical solutions.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Ability to work effectively across engineering, construction, and project controls teams.
