Job SummaryReporting to the Associate Director, Student Academic Affairs, the Learning Strategist is responsible for the development and delivery of learning support programs and services for students in a post-secondary educational setting; the identification and implementation of effective learning approaches and strategies, and for recruiting, training, mentoring, and providing feedback to student workers. The Learning Strategist will work in collaboration with the Academic Success Centre staff and student workers to develop and sustain exemplary and comprehensive learning support programs and services for adult learners, including learning strategies, and various supplemental instruction programs such as workshops, online programming, tutoring, learning circles, etc.. The Learning Strategist will also work in collaboration with other academic support areas, contributing to the creation of a holistic, integrated, and seamless experience for students.
Qualifications - Master's Degree in Adult Education or equivalent with 4 years teaching experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 4 years' experience developing and delivering academic support programs and services for students in a multi-disciplinary, post-secondary setting
- Demonstrated effectiveness in collaborating with faculty and staff on interventions as they relate to learning, academic and transition success
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and Indigenization to meet the needs of diverse students and staff and the university community
- Experience working as a member of a team, using team-based approaches, and coaching
- Thorough knowledge of educational theory and practice, including adult learning theories and strategies and intercultural theories and strategies
- Proven effectiveness as an instructor and facilitator of adult learner using a variety of formats including in-person and online
- Proficiency in facilitation, problem-solving, and inter-personal communication
- Ability to work cooperatively, complemented by the ability to exercise independent judgment and ethical decision-making with minimal supervision
- Ability to balance interruptions, multiple and varied tasks, and confidential information with discretion
- Strong customer service skills and ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty and staff
- Evidence of continuing engagement in self-education and professional development to remain current in the field of learning strategy development and support
