Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is looking for Storm Water Drainage Engineer to collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team in supporting water quality regulation compliance and implementing storm water management strategies across a unique and diverse facility. Environmental Professional 1 (Storm Water Drainage Engineer 1) - $72,800-$115,400 Reporting to the Storm Water Permitting/Compliance Team Leader within the Environmental Compliance Programs Group (EPC-CP), this position will provide technical leadership and regulatory compliance direction to LANL organizations and facilities. These diverse activities will include: Support the design and specification of control measures and related features for stormwater management and sediment and erosion control, including Low Impact Development features, new infrastructure and retrofits of existing infrastructure. Hydraulic and hydrologic modeling using such programs as HY-8, Hydraulic Toolbox, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS. Provide technical direction to others on the use of storm water management and sediment and erosion control best management practices (BMPs). Conduct field assessments to evaluate BMP function and need. Perform storm water calculations to determine peak flow, runoff volume, storage volume, etc. Provide training and technical and regulatory guidance Support oversight of institutional compliance with National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) storm water permits (CGP, MSGP, MS4) and other federal and state requirements such as Section 438 of the Energy Independence and Security Act, including: Develop regulatory documents such as Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans, inspection reports, and annual reports. Perform and document regulatory site inspections. Provide oversight on construction projects to ensure correct installation of new drainage features. Support development and implementation of institutional storm water management strategies. Promote the implementation of Low Impact Development storm water management features. Assist in the development and implementation of institutional storm water management plans. Assist in the design and specification of Low Impact Development features. Development and maintenance of engineering standards relating to stormwater management and drainage. Environmental Professional 2 (Storm Water Drainage Engineer 2) - $87,800-$143,000 In addition to the duties outlined above, the Storm Water Drainage Engineer 2 will be required to: Review project design drawings, storm water calculations, and specifications for proper storm water management and regulatory compliance, and coordinate implementation of review comments with design teams. Lead Team activities related to the design and specification of control measures and related features for stormwater management and sediment and erosion control, including Low Impact Development features, new infrastructure and retrofits of existing infrastructure. Develop institutional strategies to improve storm water management and implement Low Impact Development features. #Shiftwork What You Need Minimum Job Requirements: Design Knowledge of designing and specifying control measures and related features for storm water management and sediment and erosion control, including the performance of stormwater calculations used for sizing stormwater structures. Knowledge of developing and/or reviewing civil engineering design documents and specifications used for storm water management and/or water quality features. Modelling Knowledge of the use of software for flow calculations and/or storm water management modelling (i.e., HEC, SWMM, TR-55, RUSLE2). Understanding of hydrologic modeling methods such as the Rational Method, TR-55, and Unit Hydrograph. Understanding of hydraulic analysis concepts and methods. Sediment and Erosion Control Knowledge of the use and management of storm water and sediment and erosion control Best Management Practices. Knowledge of conducting storm water field inspections/assessments. Knowledge of the principles and use of Geographic Information System software and data. Knowledge of the use of AutoCAD software.
