Job Description:

Role Synopsis:

We are seeking a highly motivated and technically astute professional who thrives in a multifaceted, fast-paced environment. This role is responsible for establishing, implementing, and continuously refining the company's Operating Management System, including operational policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and guidance documents. The goal is to deliver safe, efficient, reliable, and compliant outcomes across the business.

A key focus of the role is to engage closely with production teams, field personnel, and cross-functional stakeholders to deeply understand their operational needs and challenges. You will interact directly with them to develop practical tools, processes, and standardized approaches that drive consistency, enhance safety performance, and support overall operational excellence. This requires a strong technical foundation, the ability to quickly grasp mechanical principles and how equipment/systems function (even when encountering unfamiliar tasks), and a proactive mindset to translate sophisticated requirements into effective, user-friendly solutions.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter who takes significant initiative, drives for better outcomes, and consistently seeks to over deliver. You will approach problems with an open mind, applying imaginative and innovative thinking when standard approaches fall short, while always prioritizing safety, risk management, and continuous improvement.

Key Accountabilities

  • Collaborate closely with office- and field-based production teams, collaborators, and leaders to understand business and operational needs, then develop, refine, and implement standard operating procedures, policies, and guidance documents that cover both field and office activities.
  • Engage proactively across the business to maintain, strengthen, and continuously improve the Operating Management System, identifying gaps and driving systemic enhancements that promote safety, standardization, and efficiency.
  • Support and streamline the management of change processes for policies, procedures, and guidance documents, ensuring timely, effective, and well-documented updates.
  • Collaborate with the Investigation Team to analyze incidents and implement corrective actions on a systemic basis, embedding lessons learned into standards and practices.
  • Work with the Process Safety Team to assess risks and enhance policies, procedures, and guidance documents, ensuring controls are practical, robust, and aligned with operational realities.
  • Proactively engage key stakeholders to identify management system gaps, develop creative corrective action plans, and drive them to timely completion while supervising progress and measuring impact.
  • Support the ongoing management and optimization of the enterprise-wide document management system to ensure accessibility, version control, and usability for all users.
  • Cultivate a culture of teamwork and continuous learning by actively sharing lessons learned across disciplines and business functions, then embedding them into bpx standards to achieve organization-wide improvement.
  • Demonstrate high initiative and ownership by working towards superior outcomes, seeking opportunities to over deliver, and applying imaginative problem-solving when established methods are insufficient to meet safety, efficiency, or reliability goals.
  • Uphold BP's Engineering Principles, align with the BP Code of Conduct, and consistently model BP's Values & Behaviors in all interactions and decision-making.

Education and Essential Criteria

  • 4 years minimum experience in oil and gas preferred, not required
  • Bachelor of science degree, preferably engineering
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work with multi-functional office & field-based teams in-person and remotely.
  • Motivated, self-starter enthusiastic about affecting change to drive upstream innovation

About BP

BP p.l.c. is a British multinational oil and gas company headquartered in London, England. It is one of the oil and gas "supermajors" and one of the world's largest companies measured by revenues and profits. It is a vertically integrated company operating in all areas of the oil and gas industry, including exploration and extraction, refining, distribution and marketing, power generation, and trading. BP's origins date back to the founding of the Anglo-Persian Oil Company in 1908, established as a subsidiary of Burmah Oil Company to exploit oil discoveries in Iran. In 1935, it became the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company and in 1954, adopted the name British Petroleum. In 1959, the company expanded beyond the Middle East to Alaska. British Petroleum acquired majority control of Standard Oil of Ohio in 1978. Formerly majority state-owned, the British government privatised the company in stages between 1979 and 1987. British Petroleum merged with Amoco in 1998, becoming BP Amoco plc, and acquired ARCO and Burmah Castrol in 2000 and Aral AG in 2002. The company's name was shortened to BP p.l.c. in 2001. From 2003 to 2013, BP was a partner in the TNK-BP joint venture in Russia, and from 2013 until Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine, held a nearly 20% stake in Rosneft.
