Responsibilities

As a Staff Systems Engineer, you9ll provide end-to-end support to systems design & infrastructure, identify solutions to complex problems, and effectively propose paths forward to drive outcomes. You will recommend improvements to established frameworks for designing, testing, maintaining, and implementing systems related to H-E-B infrastructure business processes, operations, and systems, and ensure the highest levels of availability, performance, and security.

What is the work?

Design & Development / Information Technology:

  • Contributes to the overall systems design strategy and architecture specifically for more complex and interconnected systems
  • Designs infrastructure systems supporting H-E-B business processes, operations, and network-based product systems
  • Evaluates operating systems, databases, utilities software, or system management tools the perspective of best practices and on an ongoing basis to ensure business needs are met
  • Provides guidance on analyzing, testing and debugging to junior engineers as required
  • Evaluates / tests / debugs / implements applications programs supporting H-E-B infrastructure business processes, operations, and network-based product systems
  • Guides the team with analyzing, installing, configuring, and maintaining operating systems, databases, utilities software, or system management tools for large-scale changes to technologies/ infrastructure
  • Writes custom code/scripts
  • Contributes to the development of technology roadmaps in designs and implementations
  • Ensures the team adheres to architected technology roadmaps in designs and implementations
  • Serves as technical subject matter expert (SME) for cross-functional IT Teams; assists with / troubleshoots systems-related issues and maintenance
  • Assists in writing and communicating common goals and direction for team
  • Applies experience / knowledge of available technologies to provide detailed specifications for proposed solutions; assists in creating / presenting hands-on demonstrations for proposed solutions
  • Assists with the selection of vendors by conducting thorough vendor comparisons
  • Monitors internal and vendor service level objectives (SLOs) and agreements (SLAs) for complex/ larger scale solutions; identifies / resolves SLO / SLA gaps
  • Monitors system performance for productivity issues; identifies potential solutions; collaborates & guides with vendors, other Digital Teams to implement them
  • Contributes to the development of best-in-class security, backup, and redundancy strategies
  • Promotes H-E-B standards and procedures
  • Leads and manages complex projects requiring specialized technical knowledge
  • Coordinates with technical / non-technical Partners and clients to determine business requirements
  • May lead project teams and work cross functionally with other teams to achieve success. Takes responsibility for team and project decisions. Highly visible within their organization
  • Works independently with general direction. Coaches and mentors9 other engineers in engineering techniques, processes, and new technologies; enables others to succeed
  • Interviews, mentors, and provides Partner feedback to ensure the efficient operation of the team
  • Manages and supports a mix of COTS, SaaS, and internal software and services
  • Usage of cost-benefit analyses in order to develop cost-efficient systems for specific projects.
  • Performing quality control procedures to make sure that all systems are operational and efficient
  • Developing system control features that set and maintain quality standards for an organization
  • Interacting and working with a wide range of people, like management, vendors, clients and IT staff
  • Extensive hands-on experience with the Jira suite
  • Strong understanding of APIs

  • Advanced/Subject Matter Expertise of Mobile Device Management (Omnissa Workspace ONE preferred)
  • Advanced knowledge of all things Microsoft (Microsoft 365, Security, Compliance, Entra)
  • Advanced scripting and automation experience (e.g., Powershell or Python for automated installation, configuration, hardening, and maintenance tasks)
  • Strong knowledge of networking technologies (OSI network layers, TCP/IP)
  • Strong knowledge of various operating systems and their impact / implications
  • Strong knowledge of best practices related to system security measures, and with system administration, performance tuning, and monitoring
  • Advanced communication skills
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective time management and prioritization skills
  • Project management skills are a plus
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced technical environment with increasing support demands and complexity
