Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Staff Systems Engineer / Execution Lead to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in our Systems Engineering organization. This role is located onsite in either San Diego, CA or Palmdale, CA.

In this role, you are expected to be a self-starter with familiarity working in an Integrated Product Team construct.

Roles and Responsibilities will include:
  • Developing Requirement Verification Plans (RVPs) from approved requirements and design reviews for new and changed features.
  • Coordinating reviews and approvals of the RVPs for Verification Methods
  • Supporting the collection & review of the Verification Data Products from System Test to ensure the verification date meets the intent and scope of the RVS/RVP
  • Develop Requirement Verification Records (RVRs) and coordinated internal Systems Engineering and Integration review and customer review and approval of the RVR.
  • Work with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and Responsible Engineers (REs) to gather analysis and data for requirements with Verification Method of Analysis or Inspection
  • Develop and release System Test & Verification Plan for each IFC
  • Develop and release System Test & Verification Report to close out verification activity for each IFC
  • Support peer reviews to ensure program work products meet system verification requirements.
  • Support System Test engineers develop their test procedures to ensure correct requirements interpretation and RVS incorporation.
  • Participate in Test Procedure peer reviews.
  • Support Adjudication of test findings based on understanding of required systems behaviors


Additional Support associate with the role may include:
  • Perform system definition activities for features and DRs, including by defining use cases, requirements, and feature acceptance criteria.
  • Participate in investigation of early issues and findings to understand if requirements are impacted, and to support criticality adjudication
  • Coordinate with REs and System Test to ensure integrated functions are ready for the test team to formally verify.


This position requires work full-time, on-site at our facility. There is no remote / hybrid / telework available for this position. Travel up to 10% may be required.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Must have a Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 12 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master's degree in a STEM discipline and 10 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in a STEM discipline and 8 years of related engineering experience.
  • Must have an active US Government Top Secret clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs.
  • Must have experience supporting Systems Engineering Milestones SRR, PDR and CDR.
  • Must have experience in full lifecycle of Systems Engineering, including requirements decomposition, test planning, requirements verification and requirements management.
  • Must have experience in requirements and verification management in DOORS.
  • Must have experience with requirement decomposition and traceability from System to Unit/Supplier Specifications.
  • Must have experience with managing suppliers with technical requirements and verification expectations.
  • Must have experience leading a technical team.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Active DoD Top Secret SCI clearance (with a background investigation within the past 5 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
  • Current applicable Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.
  • Experience in ICD development and integration.
  • Experience with multiple disciplines across Systems Engineering, incl. requirements, integration, technical configuration management (CM or Technical Baseline), cyber.
  • Experience with Agile Design Methodology.
  • Experience with software development.
  • Experience with HW/SW integration testing.
  • Experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment software development.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced environment, Action Oriented, Strong Attention to Detail, Communicates Effectively.


Primary Level Salary Range: $177,000.00 - $265,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
