Role Description

Form Energy is hiring a Staff Supplier Industrialization Engineer, Metals to support the transfer of sheet metal components, including stamped, laser cut, plated, and bent parts to our suppliers. This role reports into our Global Supply Management team. As part of our Supplier Industrialization Engineering team, you will support new product introduction from concept through production at supplier facilities with a focus on cost-effectiveness and lead design for manufacturing (DFM) analysis to identify and mitigate potential manufacturing issues in collaboration with Program Managers, Cell/Module Engineering, and Advanced Manufacturing, teams. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape and be part of the growth of a fast-moving company with breakthrough technology and an incredible mission!

Relocation assistance is available.

What you'll do:
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., Design Engineering, Advanced Manufacturing) to optimize designs for cost, assembly, and manufacturability. Ensure critical customer-specific requirements and Special Characteristics are clearly defined early and communicated to suppliers.
  • Lead Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) reviews with suppliers prior to design freeze. Leverage industry-standard design rules to proactively identify and mitigate manufacturing feasibility risks.
  • Own the execution of the Quality Maturation Level (QML) roadmap from early prototype builds through full Start of Production (SOP) and PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) submissions. Manage the progressive technical maturation of supplier tooling, manufacturing processes, and component accuracy.
  • Proactively identify, communicate, and mitigate program schedule risks, including tooling lead times, supplier capacity constraints, and validation windows. Develop robust mitigation plans to minimize schedule impact and protect program timelines.
  • Drive closed-loop Non-Conformance Management by issuing and managing Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCAR). Lead suppliers through formal Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and verify the long-term effectiveness of implementation plans.
  • Monitor ongoing supplier performance and QMS effectiveness through regular on-site process control plan audits and data tracking. Champion continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., Lean, Lean Product Development) to systematically reduce variation, elevate yields, and lower costs.

What you'll bring:
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience in supplier industrialization, quality engineering, or manufacturing engineering-with a hard focus on complex sheet metal fabrication.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related technical discipline.
  • Demonstrated technical mastery in high-volume sheet metal processing, including progressive die stamping, drawing, fine blanking, precise bending, laser profiling, and structural welding.
  • Expert-level mastery of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) principles per ASME Y14.5, with proven ability to run tolerance stack-up analyses and design robust inspection fixtures.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD platforms (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) to interrogate models, evaluate tool layout clearances, and execute independent DFM redlines.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of secondary sheet metal processing, including heat treating, stress relieving, deburring, and protective chemical coatings/finishes (e.g., electrolytic nickel plating, zinc coatings).
  • Strong technical authority to negotiate engineering changes with supplier executives, paired with flawless fluency in standard Core Tools (PPAP, FMEA, MSA, SPC, and Process Flow Diagrams).
