What you'll do...Walmart is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the development and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, including infrastructure, tooling, and AI/ML frameworks. This role involves driving the full software lifecycle, applying cloud-native architecture principles, and ensuring technical excellence through design reviews and mentorship. The successful candidate will collaborate across teams to translate complex business needs into actionable solutions, promote innovation, and uphold high standards of quality and integrity. This position requires strong technical judgment, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous improvement in a dynamic environment.
What you'll do:- Lead teams of 6-10 engineers to deliver projects by setting direction, defining short/long-term solutions and timelines, introducing new architectural patterns, and performing design/code reviews.
- Drive discovery for medium-to-large initiatives by partnering with Product, UX, and business stakeholders to produce high-level designs, secure approvals, run proofs of concept, and build prototypes.
- Translate requirements into scalable solutions, write and test code, communicate risks, troubleshoot defects, and ensure on-time delivery and handoffs.
- Drive AI initiatives by identifying use cases, validating models, and integrating AI capabilities responsibly.
- Resolve production issues via impact analysis, action plans, and root-cause prevention.
What you'll bring: - Bring 10+ years in Java/J2EE, including 3+ years with Kafka (or similar low-latency messaging) and 3+ years with NoSQL.
- Strong communicator able to explain complex concepts to broad audiences, with demonstrated high-level system design expertise.
- Proven experience building large-scale distributed, event-driven systems; designing, building, and operating cloud APIs/services (Azure or other stacks).
- Familiar with GraphQL, microservices, design patterns, open-source libraries, CI/CD, unit testing, Kubernetes, and CNCF tools.
- Cloud certification (Azure/GCP) preferred.
- Mentor others, lead respectfully, innovate, execute accurately, and stay curious.

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00 - $220,000.00
Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
