PayPal, Inc. seeks Staff Software Engineer in San Jose, CA
Job Duties: Lead engineering efforts and team level processes by defining outcomes for others, refining ongoing processes, and providing technical advice to senior leaders on systems, solutions, challenges, and strategy. Support end-to-end ownership of design, implementation and operational excellence of software components while proactively improving existing structures and processes. Contribute to the technical engineering roadmap by completing quality and thorough assessments of implementation alternatives and their associated trade-offs and providing recommendations. Provide technical leadership for a small team with minimum guidance from management or senior teammates. Lead end-to-end release management processes for platform ensuring high availability for services. Design, estimate, and implement new and refactored software services on the platform securely, reliably and at scale. Take ownership of quality of design and implementation of software components. Deliver high quality code on time and follow our SDLC process. Own the performance and availability of the services as well as participate in on-call rotations and provide support during incidences. Full-time telecommuting permitted from anywhere within the U.S.
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related engineering field, plus 8 years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
Special Skill Requirements:
1. Experience designing and developing large-scale software applications using Object-Oriented Design (8 years)
2. Experience with Python and Django Framework (8 years)
3. Experience with distributed systems, cloud-native applications, and containerization technologies such as Kubernetes (6 years)
4. Experience with large-scale data processing, caching strategies, and performance optimization (6 years)
5. Designing, building, and maintaining complex RESTful APIs and microservices at scale (8 years)
6. Experience with building services on cloud platforms (AWS or GCP) (8 years)
7. DynamoDB, Cassandra, DocumentDB, MySQL and other related database technology (6 years)
8. Expertise with continuous delivery and deployment practices using Github actions (5 years)
9. Hands-on experience building event-driven and asynchronous systems using Amazon SNS and Amazon SQS (4 years)
10. Expertise in managing infrastructure as code using Terraform and AWS CDK (5 years)

The base pay for this role will depend on where you work and the relevant experience and expertise you bring. The expected range of pay for this role by location is:
Primary Location | Pay Range:
San Jose, California | Salary: $205,621.00-300,500.00 per annum. 40 hours per week; M-F, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Additional compensation for this role may include an annual performance bonus, equity, or other incentive compensation, as applicable.
