Job Description
Perform environmental and industrial hygiene site investigations, assessments, and surveys to identify physical, chemical, and environmental risks. Responsibilities may include conducting asbestos surveys, indoor air quality assessments, lead paint sampling, radon sampling, soil/water/material sampling, Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), and Property Condition Assessments (PCAs). May assist with regulatory compliance evaluations including stormwater SWPPP inspections.
Develop sampling strategies, implement data collection plans, and perform fieldwork that may include lifting equipment, working outdoors in varying weather conditions, and navigating uneven terrain. Research regulatory standards; evaluate analytical results; prepare risk assessments and technical reports; and provide recommendations for corrective actions or environmental/industrial hygiene improvements. Communicate findings to clients clearly and professionally.
Responsibilities
Follow all safety rules, guidelines, and standards. Participate in pre-task planning and report safety concerns.
Demonstrate strong quality practices and maintain consistent standards in proposals and project deliverables.
Conduct environmental and industrial hygiene field investigations including air, water, soil, and material sampling; noise monitoring; IAQ assessments; asbestos surveys; lead paint sampling; radon sampling; and SWPPP inspections.
Support environmental due diligence activities such as Phase I ESAs, PCAs, and regulatory compliance reviews.
Carry out site visits, field observations, and field data collection-including outdoor work that may require lifting, carrying equipment, and extended periods on foot.
Direct and supervise field staff in sampling, testing, data collection, and documentation of site activities.
Assist senior staff on larger, more complex projects.
Analyze moderately complex laboratory and field data; assemble clear, well-structured written reports.
Develop written proposals for review and approval by senior professionals.
Participate in project meetings and communicate directly with clients regarding project tasks.
May oversee the work of junior scientists, industrial hygienists, technicians, or engineers.
Work under the supervision of a Terracon Authorized Project Reviewer.
Qualifications
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or a related scientific field.
3-6 years of relevant environmental or industrial hygiene experience.
Experience with sampling, fieldwork, and environmental data collection.
Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Licensed Asbestos Inspector (NC or VA), or other relevant environmental certifications.
