Full Job Description
Staff Reliability Engineer - Power Electronics

Reliability Engineers at Lunar Energy will be responsible for ensuring product reliability throughout the entire lifecycle of our revolutionary home energy products. This includes providing input during the design phases, developing test plans, and assessing on-going field performance. We are looking for people who are passionate about a more sustainable future and want to make that vision a reality. An ideal candidate is someone who is excited to collaborate with a diverse and dedicated team

On a given day at Lunar, you'll likely...
  • Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineers during hardware design to establish and refine component and system level reliability targets for our power electronics and battery systems.
  • Provide Design for Reliability (DfR) inputs during new product development.
  • Drive Design Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (DFMEA) for various systems to capture
performance risks and implement appropriate mitigation activities.
  • Develop ALT Reliability Test Plans for components and subsystems using identified risks, reliability targets, and physics of failures methodology to demonstrate the required product reliability throughout its design life.
  • Track field reliability performance for various metrics like part replacements, customer complaints, fault codes. Identify opportunities for continuous product improvement and reliability growth. Collaborate with the finance team to provide insights into our warranty program.
  • Drive failure analysis of reliability test and/or field returns to determine root cause and drive product improvement through containment and corrective actions.

Desired Skills:
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics or
    Equivalent.
  • Proven track record of solving complex power electronics reliability failures
  • Working knowledge in theory of operation of common power converter topologies (inverter, buck boost converter...etc)
  • Deep understanding of physics of failure and common failure mechanisms for PCBAs and power electronics components (MOSFETs, capacitors, inductors...etc)
  • Working knowledge of failure analysis techniques such as optical microscopy, SEM, CSAM, X-ray, cross-sectioning and EDX - know which technique to recommend given a specific failure
  • Experience with accelerated life testing models and the governing equations, specifically for
PCBAs, battery storage, and relevant mechanical structures.
  • Understanding of reliability statistics
