About this opportunity:

The Staff Instrumentation Engineer position involves participation in proposed modifications and daily technical support of instrumentation and control systems. This position requires provision of input to investigative studies, regulatory maintenance programs and safety/production/drilling enhancement initiatives. The role includes responsibility for the basic design principles for electronic instrumentation, pneumatic instrumentation, hydraulic instrumentation, analyzers, and the control systems used for measurement, indication, control, and safeguarding of production, utility, and marine facilities. This includes specific knowledge of SIF (Safety Instrumented Functions) for Emergency Shutdown as well as Fire and Gas detection systems. As part of a multi-discipline team, the position requires collaboration with and seeking input from all other disciplines and departments in support of Operations.

What you'll do:
  • Identify and develop opportunities for equipment/processes to improve the availability of various units, enhance safety, and improve economic performance of the field.
  • Provide technical support to Operations and Maintenance for instrumentation and control system-related queries.
  • Troubleshoot operability issues, control systems and instrumentation breakdowns to achieve technical solutions.
  • The role will require technical ownership of safety instrumented systems, monitoring safety systems functionality and participating in risk assessments.
  • Provide day-to-day technical assistance to offshore operations/maintenance groups including preventative maintenance procedures, troubleshooting, problem analysis and technology evaluations
  • Provide guidance and direction to EPC contractors
  • Perform technical reviews of engineering designs
  • Provide detail engineering design for small projects which are primarily I&C
  • Participate in formal and informal Risk Assessments, including but not limited to LOPA, SIL, Revalidation
  • Mentor and support junior engineers, engineering technologists, and student interns by providing technical guidance, fostering professional development, and promoting engineering best practices.


Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum qualifications:
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada
  • Successful candidate must be confident, analytical, collaborative and have strong communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of regulations for Offshore Oil and Gas facilities
  • A minimum of 12 years of industry experience
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering
  • A member in good standing or eligible for registration with Professional Engineers and Geoscientist Newfoundland & Laboratory (PEGNL)
  • Functional Safety Engineer certification would be an asset

This is a safety sensitive position and will be subject to offshore pre-placement Fitness for Work assessments, which includes drug and alcohol screening, a CAPP medical and BST/HUEBA testing.

You must be able to travel via helicopter and boat. This position requires the successful candidate travel offshore, there you will be required to obtain and maintain medical clearance and obtain all required training necessary for offshore travel.

This is a safety sensitive position and will be subject to pre-placement Fitness for Work assessments, which includes drug and alcohol screening, a medical and driver's abstract review.
