About the RoleWe are seeking a Staff Automation & Integration Developer and will be reporting to the Senior Director, Customer Engineering & Delivery. You will be working at the customer boundary to build the data, automation, and integration capabilities that close the gap between what the platform does out of the box and what a customer needs to run their business. This work spans integrations, connector automations, custom exports, AlayaFlow flows, and a variety of bespoke solutions. You will be deployed onto special, cross-cutting projects across teams as priorities demand, and lift capability at scale by mentoring large groups of developers across those teams at different times.
As a staff member of the team, you will bring a deep understanding of all stages of the software development cycle, along with insight into the role each developer plays and how contributions shape the customer's outcome.
What You'll Do- Lead the technical design of customer-boundary solutions - integrations, connector automations, custom exports, and AlayaFlow flows - delivering scalable, maintainable builds that hold the standard that a customer never has reason to go outside AlayaCare.
- Spend 30%+ of time coding.
- Mentor large groups of developers across multiple teams - flexing where and whom you coach as project needs shift - and improve colleagues' skills through code reviews, technical mentoring, role-modelling, coaching, and knowledge-sharing.
- Take on special, cross-cutting projects across teams: parachute into the highest-priority or most complex initiatives, provide technical direction, unblock delivery, and lift the surrounding team's capability while you are embedded with them.
- Treat hand-building the same thing per customer as a signal to productize: quantify the pattern's frequency, build effort, and ongoing maintenance cost, and route recurring work into prescriptive standards, tooling, and automation - with the directional ambition of taking humans out of the loop.
- Own integrations and file-based interfaces end to end, including third-party vendor APIs and customer-specific data mappings, and help migrate high-use or high-maintenance flows into documented, reusable system flows so distribution and maintenance costs fall over time.
- Be accountable for the accuracy and auditability of the data flows you own, and set severity and response expectations that reflect their direct impact on customer operations and caregiver pay.
- Represent Engineering directly with customers where needed - technical discovery, design walkthroughs, and escalations - translating between customer needs and technical solutions.
- Build with AI engineering tooling - agentic pipelines, spec-to-blueprint generation, and generated documentation - and raise the bar for how the team adopts it, treating it as standard practice rather than an experiment.
- Generate ideas with members of the delivery team and help them find insightful solutions to complex, customer-specific problems.
- Fundamentally understand the code and the code structure in connecting areas and quickly assess good or bad development decisions.
- Feed field patterns back to Product and Solution Architecture, quantifying frequency and cost so productization decisions are well-evidenced, and supporting those decisions rather than owning them.
- Manage business and technical stakeholders across different levels of the organization - and, where needed, at the customer - selling your ideas with confidence.
What You Bring to the Team- Bachelor's or advanced degree in computer engineering, or related fields.
- 7+ years of hands-on experience with software development (fullstack).
- Experience with AlayaCare's stack (Python, React (prefer Vue.JS), SQL, AWS).
- Experience owning integration, data export, or workflow automation work, with direct exposure to third-party APIs, file-based interfaces, and customer-specific data mappings.
- A strong track record of automating repeatable engineering work out of existence.
- Hands-on adoption of AI engineering tooling, such as agentic pipelines and code or documentation generation, and the ability to make it standard practice.
- Expert knowledge of contemporary industry trends in technology, performance, and software development tooling & practice.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills (in written and spoken English) targeting both technical and non-technical audiences, including direct customer-facing conversations.
- Experience making difficult technical decisions in ambiguous, customer-facing situations.
- Commercial literacy: services margin, billable utilization, and cost-to-serve treated as inputs to engineering decisions.
- Exceptional analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience with payroll, billing, or other financially sensitive data flows is considered a strong asset.
- Bilingual in French and English considered an asset.
Location and Work ModelThis role is based in Montreal. At AlayaCare, our hybrid model includes 2 set in-office collaboration days/week, and it is expected that team members are present in the office on those days to foster connection, innovation, and teamwork.
