The Staff Engineer is a highly skilled and experienced studio professional who upholds and exemplifies
the studio's highest technical and service standards. This role serves as the back bone of the client
experience, supporting sessions with professionalism and proactive care. While the position primarily
focuses on assistant engineer duties, the Staff Engineer is fully capable of stepping in as First Engineer
when needed, and handling any session with confidence and expertise.
The ideal candidate has established experience across all types of recording sessions, and represents
the studio's commitment to technical excellence, smooth operations, and an exceptional creative
environment.
Job Functions
• Assistant Engineer - Session Support & Client Relations
• Coordinate with and assist studio management, technical teams, and engineers to ensure sessions
are fully prepared for with precision and professionalism
• Set up and break down sessions, including microphones, instruments, patch bays, headphone
mixes, and DAW templates
• Prepare and organize session documentation, track sheets, and recall notes as needed
• Maintain detailed knowledge of studio equipment, consoles, outboard gear, and digital systems
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues quickly to minimize session downtime, and escalate when
necessary
• Support studio equipment maintenance and testing in collaboration with the technical department
• Represent the studio's values of excellence, discretion, and hospitality in every interaction
• First Engineer - Recording & Mixing
• Serve as First Engineer when requested by clients or when assigned by studio management,
independently managing the recording or mixing session with or without a producer in the room
• Collaborate closely with clients, artists, producers, and artist management to translate creative
vision into technical execution
• Lead and support Assistant Engineers, ensuring sessions are organized, efficient, and artist-focused
Job Requirements
• Minimum 4 years of professional studio experience (Assistant or Staff Engineer level)
• Proven ability to independently engineer sessions of all kinds, from vocal tracking to full band
recordings and mixes
• Advanced proficiency in Pro Tools and familiarity with other DAWs and plug-in ecosystems
• Expert understanding of analog and digital signal flow, patch bays, and hybrid recording workflows
• Exceptional organization, attention to detail, and file management habits
• Calm, confident, and solution-oriented under pressure
• Professional demeanor and impeccable studio etiquett
