Summary

The Electrical Design Engineer will contribute to the design, development, and implementation of electrical systems for building projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in building electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarms, and low voltage systems. This role involves collaborating with architects, mechanical engineers, and contractors to deliver efficient, safe, and code-compliant electrical designs.

Detailed Description

Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:
  • Develop detailed electrical designs for commercial and industrial building systems.
  • Design power distribution, lighting, emergency power, fire alarm, and communication systems.
  • Prepare electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout drawings using CAD and design software.
  • Ensure designs comply with local codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., NEC, NFPA).
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to integrate electrical systems seamlessly into building designs.
  • Perform load calculations, voltage drop analysis, and system sizing.
  • Support project cost estimation and budgeting related to electrical systems.
  • Review shop drawings, submittals, and conduct site visits to ensure design compliance and resolve issues.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, innovations, and best practices in electrical building systems.


Knowledge/Skills/Competencies

  • Proficiency with CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, Revit).
  • Familiarity with electrical codes and standards such as NEC, NFPA, IEC.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus.


Physical Demands

  • Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.
  • Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.
  • Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.
