Our Finance Department tracks the accounting for apartment building operations, commercial tenants, construction or renovation of buildings, social service grants, fundraising and the overall Plymouth organization. The Staff Payroll Accountant position assists with payroll system maintenance, payroll calculation, posting payroll related accounting entries, works with AP to handle payroll related invoices in a timely manner, payroll related general ledger maintenance, financial reporting to funders and cash management. This position may also be responsible for other accounting duties, as assigned, such as financial statement preparation, government grant accounting and donation processing.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO BE DOING IN THIS ROLE AT PLYMOUTH HOUSINGPayroll Processing & Transactions- Calculate and process payroll in ADP.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and employee cost allocations.
- Assist employees and managers with timesheet and paycheck issues.
Payroll Accounting & Reconciliation- Maintain payroll distributions and reconcile year-end payroll.
- Support reconciliation of payroll taxes and benefit invoices.
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards.
Employee Support & Customer Service- Provide responsive support to employee payroll inquiries.
- Maintain and update leave balances.
- Handle sensitive information with confidentiality and care.
Compliance & Reporting- Monitor and ensure compliance with state and federal payroll regulations.
- Prepare audit and funder reports; support multi-state payroll operations.
Systems & Process Improvement- Recommend improvements to payroll systems and procedures.
General Accounting Support- Assist with financial statements, grant accounting, and donation processing as needed.

- Strong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and accounting software.
- Experience with ADP, Abila MIP, or similar systems is a plus.
QUALIFICATIONS- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or a combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- 1 - 3 years of experience in accounting, payroll calculation and financial analysis.
- Experience with public funding and nonprofit accounting is preferred.
- Experience with ADP is preferred.
- Experience with Abila MIP Fund Accounting software is preferred.
- Knowledge of low-income housing development and operations is preferred.
- Experience with budgets and financial analysis is preferred.
- Experience accounting for multiple entities and funds is preferred.
