Role Overview

Become part of a dynamic team at the TMHCC Specialty Group headquarters in Wakefield, MA while working across multiple departments such as accounting, underwriting and claims. Under supervision of the Reinsurance Accounting Manager, you will perform intermediate reinsurance and accounting activities relating to management of gross and ceded reinsurance balances, maintenance of general ledger accounts, and preservation of accuracy within the reinsurance and financials systems.

Key Responsibilities

Within the first 30 days, you will become familiar with the Specialty Group business (what we do), programs we use (PeopleSoft, RSC, Origami, AS400), and our daily operations as they relate to reinsurance accounting and reporting.

Within the first 60 days, you will become proficient in using our accounting and reinsurance systems to complete tasks assigned by the Reinsurance Accounting Manager. You will learn to facilitate and report reinsurance settlements for both premiums and claims, respond to inquiries from reinsurers and brokers regarding settlements, claims, and collections, and coordinate responses with the appropriate departments. In addition, you will begin supporting broader staff accounting responsibilities, including preparing journal entries, assisting with monthly book close activities, completing balance sheet workpaper reconciliations, reviewing account activity, and helping ensure financial information is accurate, complete, and properly supported.

Within the first 90 days, you will assist in the month-end closing of business lines within both the reinsurance and the general ledger systems, set up treaties (reinsurance contracts) in the reinsurance system, and analyze accounting information to prepare and post entries to general ledger accounts and to document business transactions as they relate to reinsurance activities.

Ongoing, you will prepare general ledger account reconciliations related to reinsurance activity and record activity in our account reconciliation tool. You will assist with interactions with internal and external auditors, as needed, on reinsurance matters. You will proactively identify, research, and resolve reconciliation items related to reinsurer balances, prepare various ad hoc reports using advanced Excel skills, and assist with reporting for reinsurance-related meetings by gathering data, preparing schedules, summarizing key account activity, and helping ensure materials are accurate and complete.

What You Bring
  • Two (2)+ years of relevant and progressive accounting experience
  • A bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, a related field, or the equivalent education and/or experience
  • Excellent communication and critical thinking skills
  • Incredible attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Solid understanding of insurance/reinsurance principles and the accounting relationship
  • Understanding of the general applications of an insurance/reinsurance system
  • Exceptional analytical skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Intermediate proficiency and experience using Microsoft Office package (Excel, Power BI, PowerPoint, Word)

Pay Transparency

The pay range for this position is $73,400.00 - $100,900 annually, which includes geographic adjustments, where applicable. The pay range is the range THMCC, in good faith, believes is the range of compensation for this role at the time of this posting.
