Job Description

SUMMARY

The Senior Maintenance Team Leader is responsible for control and deployment of the maintenance repair teams and apprentices. Will lead the maintenance efforts of the craft team to meet set priorities and targets in line with business needs, including deployment to planned work activities, breakdown activities, PM/asset care tasks and resultant work. Must be cross functionally skilled, with practical experience in all maintenance disciplines, but primary skills and qualification must be Electrical. The role will be both leadership and task oriented, with the expectation that 40-50% split between leadership and administrative elements and hands on task completion, either as support to the teams or completion of tasks in full, where required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

SAFETY
  • Where necessary acting as an "authorized person" to ensure the safe operation and implementation of all engineering and maintenance safe systems of work.
  • Actively undertaking effective Risk Assessments, Process Hazard Assessments, Job Safety Analysis, Manual Handling Assessments, and any other appropriate safety activities to ensure the highest safety standards are maintained.
  • Once competent, act as the plant Incident Controller responding to emergency situations i.e. Fire, Serious Accidents through liaison with Security and Senior Management.
  • Responsible for maintenance HSE items to ensure all safety related issues are dealt with and closed out in a timely manner.
  • Driving the team to raise risk notifications and incident reports with minimum 80% close out rate.
  • Contractor management will ensure that all contractors provide accurate SSOW, RAMS, evidence of competence and will carry out safety inductions for new and expired contractors.

GENERAL
  • Control and deployment of a team of multiskilled craftsmen and apprentices, including mechanical repair, electricians and others identified in the current and future CBA agreements. To enable this the Senior Team Leader must carry out the following key tasks.
  • Utilizing other resources allocated to the team for specific purposes and ensuring that they perform their duties to the required standard e.g., Contractors, cleaners, and equipment resources such as radios and telephones.
  • Ensuring all Engineering documentation is completed within the Engineering Management system.
  • Where appropriate, ensuring all weekend, operational plans are facilitated with the weekend team.
  • Acting in the capacity of a mentor and a link person for apprentices and new maintenance personnel.
  • Raising Stores reservations for stores inventory and creating purchase requisitions for purchase of new items and contract services.
  • Responsible for the full utilization of SAP PM & SAP MM within the maintenance team.
  • Responsible for the training reviews of maintenance teams in line with AS9100 requirements and any future requirements as they evolve, identifying skill gaps and development opportunities.
  • Will work with the Maintenance Planner in the development of a skills matrix for the maintenance team.
  • Will assist the Maintenance Manager, Planner and Engineers to deliver effective preventative maintenance systems.
  • Will be involved in controlling the maintenance attendance e.g., updating SAP T&A systems, vacation bookings, updating SAP T&A.

CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

The Maintenance Team Leader will facilitate Continuous Improvement by implementing or assisting with:
  • Provision of visual management to enhance communication and team-working within the Engineering Department e.g., updating of skills matrix board information and other key performance indicators.
  • Involvement in initiatives where Maintenance, Engineering and Manufacturing can further improve their efficiency and service levels across the Henderson Plant.
  • Utilization of TIMET problem solving tools

ABSENCE/SCHEDULING
  • Managing vacation and unplanned absence to cover in accordance with operational requirements to ensure continuous coverage of all shift patterns required.
  • Will be responsible for documenting the maintenance vacation and absence logs and updating SAP T&A

TRAINING

Training will be provided in the following areas:
  • Health, Safety and Environment
  • Problem Solving and Continuous Improvement methodology.
  • Senior Team Leaders will undertake annual performance and development reviews with the Maintenance Coordinator in accordance with ISO requirements.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • NVQ3, HNC, HND or equivalent in an engineering discipline.
  • Minimum IOSH, preferably NEBOSH
  • Leadership management qualification - NVQ/ILM certificate.

SPECIAL SKILLS
  • Excellent leadership skills.
  • Proficient in SAP
  • Competent IT skills, Microsoft Office 365 applications, SAP PM.
  • Internal customer focus and organizational ability to meet tight deadlines and work efficiently under pressure.
  • Possess a sound knowledge of all aspects of the plant systems and machinery.
  • Able to develop a strong understanding of the production process.
  • Communication skills to forge effective working partnerships with other departments, supplier and customers - particularly Production.
  • Ability to apply sound logic to trouble shooting and structured problem solving.
  • Ability to compile concise reports on a regular and continuous basis.
  • Broad based engineering and manufacturing background, experience in leading groups of engineering and maintenance personnel.
  • Willingness, commitment, and ability to learn and develop.
