About the RoleAt 42dot, we are redefining the vehicle as a living software platform. This transformation requires a world-class physical environment where hardware and software converge. As the Sr. Staff EE Lab Manager, you will be the primary architect and guardian of our Electrical Engineering laboratory. You will be responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of the lab-from initial build-out and procurement to the implementation of sophisticated automated testing environments. This is a critical role that ensures our engineers have the tools, safety protocols, and high-fidelity testing infrastructure needed to build the future of autonomous mobility.
Responsibilities- Lab Architecture & Build-out: Lead the design, stocking, and scaling of a large-scale EE lab. Manage vendor relationships, equipment procurement (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, power supplies), and space optimization.
- Advanced Rework & Prototyping: Act as the technical expert for complex PCBA modifications, including high-precision BGA reworks, fine-pitch soldering, and prototype assembly.
- Safety & Compliance: Establish and enforce rigorous safety standards. Manage hazardous materials (batteries, chemicals), ensure OSHA compliance, and develop Emergency Action Plans for a high-voltage/high-energy environment.
- Automated Infrastructure: Design, build, and maintain automated test suites and regression testing environments (HIL/SIL) to validate hardware stability across the product lifecycle.
- Operational Management: Oversee the calibration schedules, inventory management for components (active/passive), and the organizational flow of the lab to maximize engineering throughput.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Firmware and Hardware teams to support vehicle integration, debugging sessions, and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing.
Qualifications- Industry Tenure: Minimum of 15+ years of hands-on experience in EE lab management or high-complexity electronics manufacturing/testing
- Rework Mastery: Expert-level ability in PCB and BGA rework. Must be comfortable with high-density boards and advanced soldering stations.
- Safety Leadership: Proven track record of managing safety and environmental hazards in a lab setting, specifically regarding electrical safety and chemical handling.
- Test Automation: Demonstrated experience in setting up and maintaining automated regression testing rigs or environmental test chambers.
- Equipment Proficiency: Deep knowledge of high-end EE lab equipment (Vector Network Analyzers, Logic Analyzers, Thermal Cameras, etc.).
- Operational Excellence: Experience managing large-scale budgets for lab equipment and maintaining a comprehensive component library.
Preferred Qualifications- Academic Background: BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- People Management: Experience leading teams.
