Summary

The Senior Specialist - User Research Operations supports the planning, coordination, execution, and documentation of user research and human factors studies throughout the product development lifecycle. Working closely with UX Researchers, Human Factors Engineers, and cross-functional teams, this role contributes directly to research activities including usability testing, exploratory user research, heuristic evaluations, cognitive walkthroughs, contextual inquiry, ethnographic observation, and simulation-based evaluations.

In addition to managing study logistics and operations, the role serves as a hands-on research partner by helping prepare studies, collect data, facilitate research activities, synthesize findings, and continuously improve research practices. The position is designed to build expertise in user-centered design, research methodologies, and human factors engineering while supporting the growth of Front Line Care's user research capabilities.

Responsibilities

1. Support Execution of User Research and Human Factors Studies (20%)

Collaborate with UX Researchers and Human Factors Engineers to execute user research activities throughout product development.

Responsibilities include:
  • Supporting formative and summative usability studies
  • Preparing research materials and study protocols
  • Assisting with moderation and facilitation activities
  • Conducting note-taking and observation
  • Managing recording systems and study documentation
  • Supporting data organization and synthesis
  • Preparing research summaries and reports

2. Coordinate User Research and Human Factors Studies (20%)

Coordinate operational and logistical components of studies from planning through completion.

Responsibilities include:
  • Participant recruitment and scheduling
  • Communication with healthcare facilities and research participants
  • Managing study calendars and logistics
  • Ordering and shipping supplies and equipment
  • Supporting vendor management activities
  • Study documentation and record retention
  • Processing contracts and administrative requirements

3. Contribute to Diverse Research Methods and Evaluations (15%)

Participate in a range of user research and human factors activities to generate user insights and identify usability opportunities.

Methods may include:
  • Heuristic evaluations
  • Cognitive walkthroughs
  • Contextual inquiry
  • Workflow analyses
  • Ethnographic and observational research
  • Simulation-based evaluations
  • User interviews
  • Surveys and questionnaires
  • Task analyses
  • Early concept evaluations

This role may independently conduct selected activities under guidance from UX Researchers and Human Factors Engineers.

4. Support Research Insight Development (10%)

Assist project teams in organizing and synthesizing research findings.

Responsibilities include:
  • Organizing study observations and notes
  • Performing transcription review and verification
  • Supporting affinity mapping and thematic analysis activities
  • Preparing visual summaries and presentations
  • Contributing to research repositories and knowledge libraries

5. Maintain Research Facilities and Infrastructure (10%)
  • Manage User Research Studio scheduling
  • Configure simulated-use environments
  • Maintain study equipment inventory
  • Support SharePoint and digital research tools
  • Coordinate study room setup and readiness

6. Support Compliance and Study Governance Activities (10%)
  • Coordinate contracts and NDAs
  • Support Ethics & Compliance processes
  • Maintain study records and documentation
  • Assist with vendor qualification and onboarding
  • Support audit readiness activities

7. Participate in Research Operations and Process Improvement (10%)
  • Maintain study templates and job aids
  • Support digitalization initiatives
  • Improve coordination workflows
  • Assist with development of standard work
  • Share lessons learned and best practices

8. Develop Organizational Research Capability (5%)
  • Assist in onboarding new team members
  • Share knowledge of research methods and tools
  • Support workshops and training sessions
  • Help promote user-centered design practices across Front Line Care

Enhanced Qualifications

Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Understanding of user-centered design principles and usability engineering processes.

  • Experience observing or moderating research sessions.
  • Experience conducting heuristic evaluations or workflow analyses.
  • Experience working in healthcare or regulated product development environments.
  • Experience interacting directly with clinicians, patients, caregivers, or other healthcare stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting synthesis of qualitative research findings.
