PayPal, Inc. seeks Sr Software Engineer in San Jose, CA
Job Duties: Build next-generation software applications and solutions in the cloud while maintaining existing services. Design and implement optimized Data access capabilities for PayPal developers, using experience with database design tools and methodologies, including SQL and NoSQL databases, and experience with ORM tools. Drive architecture discussions, produce well-documented design docs, and participate in design and code reviews. Research, analyze, design, develop, and test the solutions that are appropriate for the business and technology strategies. Design, develop, and enhance product components utilized across every interaction between PayPal components and datastores. Responsible for the scalability, high availability, and reliability of software datastores used within PayPal. Lead and estimate engineering effort, plan implementations, and rollout for applications integrating with cross-functional components. Telecommuting permitted: Work may be performed from anywhere within the U.S.
Minimum Requirements: Master's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field, plus three years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation. Employer will accept a Bachelor's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field, plus five years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
Special Skill Requirements:
1. Experience in at least one backend language: Java, Python, or Ruby on Rails (3 Years);
2. Experience with Spring MVC or Hibernate (2 Years);
3. Experience in designing and implementing RESTful services (2 Years);
4. Experience in measuring and improving scalability and reliability of services using Java (2 Years);
5. Experience supporting production cloud database and backend systems, including monitoring, incident response, root-cause analysis, and performance tuning (2 Years);
6. Experience implementing data security controls for backend or database systems, including encryption, access control, and secure handling of sensitive data (2 years);
7. Experience mentoring junior engineers and contributing to code reviews and technical design discussions (1 Year);
8. Experience with cloud platforms: AWS, GCP, or Azure;
9. Experience with databases: SQL and NoSQL;
10. Knowledge of database design and experience with ORM tools.
Additional Responsibilities & Preferred Qualifications:
The base pay for this role will depend on where you work and the relevant experience and expertise you bring. The expected range of pay for this role by location is:
Primary Location | Pay Range:
San Jose, California | Salary: $187,741.00 - 270,500.00 per annum. 40 hours per week; M-F, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Additional compensation for this role may include an annual performance bonus, equity, or other incentive compensation, as applicable.
