PayPal, Inc. seeks Sr Software Engineer in San Jose, CA
Job Duties: Develop and deliver a Wallet-as-a-Service platform in collaboration with architects, cross-functional engineering teams, product partners, and external stakeholders. Own high-level end-to-end system design as well as low-level design for interface engineering and real-time wallet transaction processing. Implement value-added service capabilities, including latency optimization, compliance mandates, and settlement processing. Participate in and lead design and code reviews, continuous integration, production deployments, and business operations monitoring. Provide ongoing technical support to internal teams and products across the wallet domain. Maintain and operate live production systems, including infrastructure management across PayPal on-premises and public cloud environments, ensuring reliability, scalability, and secure messaging. Partial telecommuting permitted from within a commutable distance.
Minimum Requirements: Master's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field plus three years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation. Employer will accept a Bachelor's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field plus five years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
Special Skill Requirements:
1. Experience developing large-scale backend applications using Java and Spring, including experience in SQL databases and NoSQL technologies (3 years).
2. Experience designing and implementing secure, high-performance backend services and RESTful APIs (3 years).
3. Experience architecting and building data-intensive applications optimized for scalability, availability, and fault tolerance (3 years).
4. Experience applying advanced object-oriented design principles and clean code practices (3 years).
5. Experience implementing proven software design patterns, efficient data structures, and algorithms (3 years).
6. Experience developing high traffic microservices and deploying them in AWS cloud environments (2 years).
7. Experience collaborating with product owners, architects, and stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions (2 years).
8. Experience debugging complex production issues and performing root cause analysis to deliver long-term fixes (2 years).
9. Experience practicing test-driven development and automation to ensure high-quality code delivery (2 years).
10. Experience identifying performance bottlenecks and refactoring code to improve efficiency, scalability, and cloud performance (2 years).
Additional Responsibilities & Preferred Qualifications:
The base pay for this role will depend on where you work and the relevant experience and expertise you bring. The expected range of pay for this role by location is:
Primary Location | Pay Range:
San Jose, California | Salary: $169,576.00-243,500.00 per annum. 40 hours per week; M-F, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Additional compensation for this role may include an annual performance bonus, equity, or other incentive compensation, as applicable.
