What You'll Do

The Senior Software Engineer I is an experienced technology professional responsible for designing, developing, and supporting software solutions across Middle and Back Office functions, including Investment Operations, Fund Operations, and Finance. This role partners with business and technology teams to improve operational processes, enhance data quality, and deliver reliable, scalable platforms that support asset management operations.

The position requires strong technical skills, an understanding of asset management workflows, and the ability to translate business requirements into practical technology solutions. The engineer contributes to modernization efforts, automation initiatives, and ongoing platform enhancements while maintaining a focus on quality, reliability, and operational excellence.

 

Key Responsibilities

Software Engineering & Delivery

  • Design, develop, test, and support applications supporting Investment Operations, Fund Operations, and Finance.
  • Deliver scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions aligned with enterprise engineering standards.
  • Participate in system integrations across front-, middle-, and back-office platforms.
  • Contribute to automation initiatives that improve operational efficiency and reduce manual effort.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and implement sustainable solutions.

Data & Platform Support

  • Support data flows across portfolio accounting, fund accounting, and reporting platforms.
  • Assist with reconciliation, valuation, and financial reporting processes by developing and maintaining supporting technology solutions.
  • Contribute to data quality, governance, and monitoring initiatives.
  • Help improve platform reliability, performance, and scalability.

Business Partnership

  • Work closely with Investment Operations, Fund Accounting, Finance, and Reporting teams to understand requirements and deliver technology solutions.
  • Participate in analysis, design, testing, and implementation activities for business initiatives.
  • Develop knowledge of asset management workflows and supporting technologies.

Operational Excellence & Risk Management

  • Support daily operational processes including valuation, NAV production, reconciliation, and trade processing.
  • Monitor application performance and proactively identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Follow established controls, compliance requirements, and risk management practices.
  • Participate in audit and regulatory support activities as needed.

Team Collaboration

  • Share technical knowledge and collaborate effectively with engineers, analysts, architects, and product teams.
  • Provide guidance and support to less experienced engineers when appropriate.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies and support continuous improvement efforts.
  • Contribute to engineering standards, code reviews, and quality practices.
Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Experience building and supporting enterprise applications in financial services, asset management, or related industries.
  • Understanding of one or more Middle and Back Office business functions, including:
  • Investment Operations (trade processing, settlements, reconciliations)
  • Fund Operations (NAV, valuation, or fund accounting)
  • Finance (financial reporting, accounting, or general ledger processes)
  • Experience with portfolio accounting or fund accounting platforms (e.g., Eagle, Geneva, or similar environments) is preferred.
  • Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages such as Java, Python, or C#.
  • Experience with APIs, application integrations, database technologies, and data processing solutions.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to cloud-based technologies and modern application architectures.
  • Experience with data integration, data quality, or reporting platforms.
  • Familiarity with investment management operating models and operational workflows.
  • Knowledge of Agile development methodologies.
  • Experience working within regulated financial services environments.

Salary Range InformationSalary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. The following locations are examples of market-specific salary ranges across different geographies. 

  • Wichita, KS: $105,000 - $123,000 / year
  • Des Moines, IA: $110,000 - $130,000 / year
  • Charlotte, NC: $116,000 - $136,000 / year
  • Chicago/Minneapolis: $127,000 - $150,000 / year
  • Los Angeles/New York City: $140,000 - $165,000 / year
Time Off ProgramFlexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Work Environment

 

This role offers in-office, hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek), and remote work arrangements (only if residing more than 30 miles from Des Moines, IA, Raleigh, NC, or Charlotte, NC). You’ll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors.
