A challenging opportunity is now available for a UOP R&D Development Manager in the Manufacturing Technology Group (MPT). The MPT group is accountable for the development of catalyst and adsorbent products from prototypes to commercial production.

This role is located at Des Plaines, IL and will work a hybrid schedule (3 days on office each week).

Position Responsibilities:
  • Meet Development Department and MPT Department New Product Revenue goals by maintaining new project development and commercialization schedules, supporting production trial runs, and marketing/sales efforts for new product sales
  • Manage a group of 4 engineers and scientists in meeting department objectives
  • Coordinate new project transitions with Research management and specialists.
  • Lead raw material substitution projects for cost savings and to improve sourcing strategies
  • Quickly adapt to UOP business/market needs for future catalyst and adsorbent scale-up project work.
  • Interface with other UOP departments including manufacturing locations, Business, Research, Analytical and Advanced Characterization to ensure robust development programs and effective support of existing technologies.
  • Fundamental understanding of Refining and Petrochemical catalysts including alumina, zeolite, catalyst forming, heat treatment chemistry, and unit operations.
  • Stay current on patent and open literature as they relate to development programs and key technology areas.
  • Utilize Modeling tools, six-sigma tools, etc. to lead team to quick project completion.
  • Lead team in a "safety first" culture and meet all safety requirements.

Basic Candidate Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering, or mathematics
  • Minimum 5 year's experience in catalysis and/or adsorbent science required
  • Management Experience


We Value:
  • BS Chemical Engineer or Chemist
  • Experience in laboratory operations and running lab scale equipment desired
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Fundamental knowledge of UOP catalyst and adsorbent technology
  • Six Sigma Black Belt preferred


The annual base salary range for this position is $142k - $177k. This position is incentive eligible. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline.
