Job SummaryThe Senior Project Engineer serves as a key member of the project management team and is responsible for overseeing project execution, cost control, contract administration, scheduling, and operational support on heavy civil construction projects. This position acts as a bridge between field operations and project management, requiring advanced technical expertise, strong leadership skills, and the ability to manage multiple project priorities simultaneously.
The Senior Project Engineer independently manages critical project functions, supports financial performance, mentors developing Project Engineers, and works closely with owners, subcontractors, vendors, and field personnel to ensure successful project delivery. This position serves as a primary developmental role in preparation for advancement into an Assistant Project Manager or Project Manager position.

Essential DutiesLeadership & Staff Development- Mentor and develop Project Engineers and entry-level employees.
- Assist in training, coaching, and onboarding of project staff.
- Identify training opportunities and support employee development initiatives.
- Promote accountability, teamwork, and professional growth among project team members.
- Demonstrate effective delegation, communication, and leadership skills.
Safety Responsibilities- Actively champion and model the company's safety culture.
- Participate in safety observations, pre-planning meetings, toolbox talks, and safety programs.
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies and regulatory requirements.
- Identify, communicate, and mitigate jobsite risks and hazards.
- Demonstrate safety leadership and commitment to continuous improvement.
Required QualificationsEducation- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field; or
- Equivalent combination of education, training, and industry experience.
Experience- Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible heavy civil construction experience.
- Experience supporting project management, cost control, scheduling, and contract administration functions.
- Experience coordinating subcontractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
Technical Skills- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and contract documents.
- Strong understanding of project cost control and budgeting practices.
- Working knowledge of construction scheduling principles.

Preferred Qualifications & Certifications- OSHA 30 Certification.
- Safety Trained Supervisor (STS-C) Certification.

- Fall Protection Competent Person Certification.
- Trenching and Excavation Competent Person Certification.
- Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead (CESCL)
- Construction Law/Claims Training.
- Change Order Management Training.
