Responsibilities
The Senior Project Accountant partners with project teams to deliver accurate, timely financial reporting, analysis, and operational support across a large and complex portfolio of lump sum and GMP projects. This role serves as a key financial steward, ensuring compliance, strengthening internal controls, and providing actionable insight into project performance and risk.
The Senior Project Accountant owns the end-to-end billing process, validates project financial activity, and collaborates closely with Project Managers and Operations to ensure accurate cost tracking and revenue recognition. This role also provides leadership and supervision to junior level staff and helps drive consistency, quality and efficiency across project accounting processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Financial Management & Support
- Lead financial oversight of a portfolio of large, complex projects.
- Serve as a trusted financial partner to Project Managers and Operational Leaders.
- Set up project budget within CMiC to ensure accuracy and alignment with contract.
- Establish & maintain job specific rate tables in accordance with contract.
- Lead owner billing process: prepare, review, post, and maintain billing trackers; participate in pencil reviews with clients as needed. Support collection efforts to receive payments within contract terms.
- Ensure subcontractor compliance, including insurance, lien waivers, and second-tier requirements.
- Manage subcontractor payment processes and respond to subcontractor inquiries.
- Review, approve, and cost-code invoices. Process cost reallocations.
- Partner with vendors and Accounts Payable to resolve invoice discrepancies.
- Review monthly Cost-to-Complete (CTC) reports; analyze and explain gross profit fluctuations, identifying risks and opportunities.
- Provide support for internal and external audits.
- Attend Project Meetings as needed.
- Prepare project Specific Work-in-Process (WIP) entries, including Risk & Opportunity (R&O) analysis.
- Support teams with project revenue projections and ensure alignment with project performance.

Leadership & Team Development
- Provide direct oversight and coaching to junior accounting staff, as applicable.
- Delegate work effectively while maintaining accountability for accuracy and timeliness.
- Review and provide constructive feedback on team deliverables to ensure quality and consistency.
- Act as a resource and mentor to develop team capability and strengthen finance processes.
- Contribute to a collaborative, solutions-oriented team environment.
Qualifications
- 5 to 7+ years project accounting experience required, in the construction industry.
- Strong working knowledge of AIA billing and WIP reporting, cost to complete reports, contracts & compliance.
- Some management or mentorship experience required.
- CMIC and/or Textura experience is a plus, but not required.
- Accounting degree or commensurate experience.

Salary Range Information
Boston Base Salary Range: $90,000 - $130,000 The range stated is specific to Boston. Placement within the listed range depends on many factors including, but not limited to years of experience, project size capability (for Construction & Field roles) and internal company equity.
