Full Job Description

About the Team

Workday is looking for a Senior Product Manager to help us provide an incredible experience to our end users! Our payroll product managers deliver new features, resolve product defects, and maintain compliance for Workday Payroll for the US.

This role sits within the Payroll organization with a specific focus on payroll tax and compliance. You will partner closely with other payroll product managers, engineers, designers, and our compliance and legal partners to ensure Workday Payroll continues to meet evolving regulatory requirements while taking advantage of new AI capabilities to make our customers’ lives easier.

About the Role

At Workday, our Product Managers are the voice of the customer and domain specialists. Drawing on your own payroll tax and compliance expertise, and in collaboration with our customers, you will contribute to our next generation payroll solution. With a strong emphasis on the end user, you will deliver an unparalleled experience that will excite our customers and provide them with the capabilities to excel.

In this role, you will be responsible for defining and driving an AI-first strategy for how Workday Payroll helps customers stay compliant. You will:

  • Deeply understand US payroll tax, compliance, and statutory requirements, including how they show up in customer processes, product configuration, and ongoing operations.

  • Assess current workflows, tools, and customer touch points for compliance notifications, statutory changes, and other tax updates, and identify high-impact opportunities to streamline and automate them using AI and other technologies.

  • Define a product vision and roadmap for AI-driven compliance capabilities (e.g., intelligent monitoring, automated notifications, suggested configuration changes, impact analysis, and guided workflows) that reduce manual effort and risk for customers.

  • Partner with engineering, ML, and design to translate regulatory requirements and customer pain points into clear, logical, and sometimes complex product requirements and user experiences.

  • Collaborate across Payroll, Platform, and other Workday teams to ensure your solutions are secure, explainable, auditable, and aligned with Workday’s AI strategy and trust principles.

  • Engage with customers and prospects to validate problems and solutions, gather feedback on AI-driven features, and ensure we are building capabilities that customers trust and adopt.

  • Assist customer support teams by reviewing and detailing replication steps for customer issues as well as providing logical, sometimes complex, requirements for solving.

  • Work across teams to identify impact, workarounds, and solutions for customer-facing issues.

  • Engage with customers by monitoring improvement requests and conducting analysis for business and functional requirements.

  • Conduct research and discovery to craft and validate requirements and use prioritization techniques to handle the backlog.

  • Assist with providing effective customer-facing documentation, with a particular focus on clearly explaining how AI-driven compliance features work and how customers can get value from them.

About You

Basic Qualifications

  • 6+ years of product management (or closely related) experience, such as product manager, senior business analyst, or product owner, building and delivering software products.

  • 4+ years of hands-on experience with US payroll taxes and compliance (for example in product management, consulting, operations, implementation, or support).

  • Proven experience working in a relevant role, such as a business analyst, product manager, support analyst, or consultant in the payroll or HCM domain.

Other Qualifications

  • Passionate about payroll with a deep, confirmed understanding of US payroll tax and compliance, including how regulatory changes impact payroll operations for customers.

  • Experience researching, summarizing, and prioritizing customer business requirements, particularly in highly regulated domains.

  • Demonstrated success working with cross-functional product teams building products that customers love and that deliver measurable results.

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to use data and experimentation to drive decision making in product development.

  • Comfortable working with AI/ML-enabled capabilities: able to translate business problems into AI-powered use cases, and to reason about tradeoffs such as accuracy, explainability, and user trust. (Hands-on ML experience is a plus, but not required.)

  • Experience using tools such as Cursor and other AI-assisted development or productivity tools to automate workflows, streamline day-to-day tasks, and accelerate experimentation and delivery.

  • Excellent customer relationship skills, with the ability to earn trust from both business and technical stakeholders.

  • Motivated to continue learning and become (or remain) a specialist in US Payroll tax and compliance areas.

  • A highly motivated, quick learner, who thrives on creatively solving tough problems in a fast-paced agile environment.

  • Nice to have: Experience with Canadian payroll taxes and compliance.

Our Approach to Flexible Work

With Flex Work, we’re combining the best of both worlds: in-person time and remote. Our approach enables our teams to deepen connections, maintain a strong community, and do their best work. We know that flexibility can take shape in many ways, so rather than a number of required days in-office each week, we simply spend at least half (50%) of our time each quarter in the office or in the field with our customers, prospects, and partners (depending on role). This means you'll have the freedom to create a flexible schedule that caters to your business, team, and personal needs, while being intentional to make the most of time spent together. Those in our remote "home office" roles also have the opportunity to come together in our offices for important moments that matter.
