Position Overview:

The Medical Surgical Brands Product Development Manager is responsible for leading the development and enhancement of medical and healthcare products, taking them from initial concept to successful market launch. This role involves managing cross-functional teams, collaborating with stakeholders, and ensuring that product development aligns with McKesson Brand’s strategic objectives. The Product Development Manager will drive innovation, understand customer needs and pain points and devise effective solutions, manage timelines, and oversee product life cycles to deliver high-quality products to the portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Product Ownership:  Act as the “mini-GM” for assigned categories, developing and executing commercial strategies that support and drive growth of the business.  Act as key point-of-contact for other stakeholders and drive initiatives that support category objectives

  • New product ideation, analysis, and concept sell-inbusiness case development. Develop and assess new McKesson Brands product ideas by understanding customer needs and pain points, translating customer needs to technical product requirements to ensure feasibility and alignment with customer expectations, reviewing current market landscape, researching competitive offerings (attributes/benefits, pricing strategy, volume sold, channels), and gaining insights from market data, sales reps, customers, and suppliers. Build comprehensive business cases to internally sell-in new product concepts and gain alignment from key stakeholders.

  • New product development. Serve as project lead for McKesson Brands new product development activities. Communicate with internal and external stakeholders to gather requirements, provide updates and align on product vision. Collaborate regularly with Sourcing, Quality Assurance, Brand Management, Supply Chain Management, National Brand Category Management, Sales, Product Marketing, Finance, Suppliers, Legal and Compliance to ensure new products are developed and launched on time.

  • Product roadmap. Create and maintain a product roadmap, prioritizing features and improvements based on customer feedback and business value.

  • Portfolio and funnel management. Manage existing product portfolio in accordance with McKesson Brands strategy and in partnership with the national brand strategy. Explore opportunities to rationalize the portfolio, making sure each product meets our customers’ needs and generates optimal financial value to the organization.

  • Support Organic Growth:  Collaborate with the commercialization team and other stakeholders to develop and drive organic growth opportunities including but not limited to enhanced product positioning, coordinated sales and marketing efforts, new customer RFPs, and other growth initiatives

  • Partnering with Sourcing. Collaborate with the sourcing team to support supplier selection and facilitate the transition of products between suppliers, ensuring adherence to and compliance with both product and regulatory requirements.

Minimum Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent and typically requires 7+ years of relevant experience.

Critical Qualifications:

  • Experience in product development in finished goods from concept development to successful product launch; healthcare and medical device product development experience preferred.

  • Customer-centric with capability of translating user needs into new product concepts.

  • Ability to think strategically while managing the tactical execution.

  • Ability to effectively collaborate with a range of counterparts including Sourcing, Category Management, Finance, Legal, Supply Chain Management, Product Marketing and Sales.

  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and perform under tight deadlines.

  • Solid understanding of supply chain operations and financial profitability levers.

  • Ability to work in a regulated environment and adherence to quality and regulatory landscape.

  • Ability to work in an ambiguous environment with ongoing change

Additional Skills and Qualifications

  • Innovative mindset with a passion for creating new products

  • Understanding of healthcare market and the dynamic competitive landscape

  • Proficient in project management

  • Advanced MS Office, Excel and Power Point

  • Future state - Google platform experience preferred

Education

  • BA / BS in business, marketing, engineering or related field required; MBA would be considered an assett
