DescriptionNorthrop Grumman Mission Systems Sector (Targeting) is seeking an experienced motor drive engineer to design solutions for electromechanical servo systems. Tasks would include motor selection, PWM and linear motor drive hardware design, controls design, testing, and subsystem integration. The motor drive engineer would work in a small functional team to support programs across multiple business units.
This position will be full-time, on-site at our Rolling Meadows, IL. location.
This position is contingent upon Funding/Contract award, special access program and acquiring and maintaining the necessary US Government security clearance per customers' requirements prior to start.
Basic Qualifications Sr. Principal Motor Control Design Engineer:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, or closely related field, and 8+ years of relevant experience (6 years with a Master of Science degree, 4 years with a PhD or Science degree)
- Experience with selection and control of 3-phase brushless DC motors
- Experience with power electronics design
- Proficiency with MATLAB, Simulink, and circuit simulation tools (e.g. SPICE, Saber)
- Ability to function in a multi-disciplinary team-oriented environment and rapidly adapt to changing work priorities.
- US Citizenship
- Ability to obtain and maintain a minimum of a Secret Clearance with additional customer specified clearance prior to start.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with the selection of motors, motor drives, and digital controllers based on cost constraints and technical performance requirements
- Experience with high precision multi-axis servo applications using inertial stabilization
- Experience with power electronics design using GaN FETs
- Troubleshooting, integration, and test experience
- Understanding of EMI/EMC requirements
- Experience with digital communication interfaces
- Understanding of digital control theory
- Understanding of how motor drive performance impacts system level requirements
- Experience with C code development for Texas Instruments C2000 microcontrollers using the TI Code Composer Studio IDE, or other embedded software/firmware development experience
- Experience conducting structured trade studies
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Active TS/SCI security clearance
Primary Level Salary Range: $135,800.00 - $203,600.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
