This is a US-based remote role. You will be required to interview in person.
About the role
As a Senior Principal Engineer, you will shape the future of modern identity security. On a typical day, you will collaborate with cross-functional product managers, designers, and software, quality, and DevOps engineers to evolve the reliability, performance, and scalability of our services and infrastructure. You will spend your time designing elegant, robust solutions to complex SaaS challenges, working on a cloud-native event-driven microservices architecture built on AWS. Whether you are decomposing legacy monolithic structures into sleek services, optimization-tuning relational or NoSQL database models, or coding in technologies like Java, JavaScript, or Ruby, your efforts will directly elevate the operational health of our core platform. You will serve as a strategic technical voice, influencing the product roadmap, championing next-generation software design trends, and advocating for our technology with stakeholders and the broader community.
About the team
You will be joining the Atlas Platform team, the fundamental engineering crew building the next-generation multi-tenant SaaS foundation that powers the SailPoint Identity Security Cloud. SailPoint Atlas centralizes human, machine, and AI-driven identities onto a single control plane. The team is dedicated to engineering a unified suite of common services-including advanced AI models, extensible policy engines, flexible workflows, and rich identity data schemas-to support global-scale operations. We are a results-driven, highly collaborative group that values relentless innovation, operational excellence, and individuals who are passionate about solving multi-billion-vector risk security challenges at scale.
Roadmap for success
- 30 days: Set up your engineering workstation, complete SailPoint's foundational onboarding courses, review the Atlas platform architectural documentation, and partner with a mentor to ship your first code modification to production.
- 60 days: Take ownership of decomposing a designated monolithic function into a distinct, cloud-native microservice, collaborate with product managers to scope technical requirements for an upcoming feature, and contribute daily to code reviews.
- 6 months: Lead the design and integration of a major database scaling project (utilizing relational or NoSQL database systems), implement performance testing frameworks to reduce latency in key services by 15%, and recommend specific SaaS technologies to adopt or avoid in our next-generation architecture.
- 1 year: Architect and execute a core segment of our multi-year platform strategy, deliver two or more high-scale microservices on the AWS stack, publish a technical blog post or speak at an internal/external engineering conference representing SailPoint, and serve as the main technical reference point to elevate the overall operational reliability of our production environment.
Requirements
- Bachelors degree in related field, or equivalent professional experience
- 15+ years of hands-on experience in Internet products and technologies, including 5+ years using Java
- Significant demonstrable experience designing and implementing products and services on top of the AWS stack
- Experience working in an environment involving rapid development of modern, service-based HTML5 applications
- Background in and understanding of testing, including unit testing, integration testing, and scale testing
- Experience analyzing business requirements and decomposing them into technical solutions
- Detail-oriented, hands-on, and able to balance business and client needs with technical constraints in a SaaS environment
Preferred Skills
- MS or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field
- Experience working with complex multi-tenant SaaS platforms
