Full Job Description
Purpose of the Position

The purpose of the Principal Senior Director of Research is to shape the research vision of an organization and ensure that complex, high-impact research efforts are strategically planned, well-executed, and aligned with organizational goals.

Responsibilities
• Lead R&D programs in electrophoretic display physics, including particle dynamics, charge control, and field-driven optical response.
• Develop and optimize driving schemes to enhance image quality, speed, and other properties.
• Investigate electrostatic, fluidic, and optical interactions in multi-particle and multi-layer systems.
• Expand fundamental understanding of electrophoretic display systems, focusing on the interplay of driving schemes and materials
• Build physical and computational models to simulate electrophoretic motion, electrohydrodynamic effects, and particle-electrode interactions.
• Apply electrical, optical, and imaging tools to characterize device behavior (e.g., impedance spectroscopy, transient response, particle tracking).
• Use statistical and physics-based analysis to correlate materials properties with display performance.
• Identify breakthrough opportunities in display physics, electro-optical design, and materials integration.
• Generate patents and technical publications that strengthen company IP position.
• Mentor and guide scientists, engineers, and technicians in multidisciplinary project teams.

Qualifications

Education
• Ph.D. in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Materials Science, or related field.
• 20+ years of industrial or research experience in electrophoretic displays, electro-optic systems, or related device physics.
• Proven track record of innovation through patents, publications, or commercial product development.

Experience
• Experience analyzing complex systems using advanced mathematical methods for solving practical problems
• Experience with soft materials such as polymers and colloids; familiarity with their electrical properties is a plus
• Proficiency with electronic devices and laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, and function generators
• Expertise in one or more of the following or related areas: optimization methods, hardware and electronics, machine learning tools, computational physics, and signals and systems

Salary Range Disclosure: The annual base salary range for this position is $210,000 to $260,000, not including any variable pay. The total compensation package may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, and other variable pay components. The salary range for this position reflects a reasonable estimate at the time of posting and may vary based on factors such as experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
