NextEra Energy is seeking an experienced individual for a PGD Sr. Engineer position in our Renewable Operations Control Center (ROCC) wind, photovoltaic (PV) solar, and battery storage operations group located in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. NextEra Energy, Inc. is one of the largest and highest-performing power generation companies in the nation and a leader in Renewable Energy. The ROCC is responsible for a diverse generation fleet of over 17,000 MW's.The PGD Sr. Engineer will support the wind, PV solar, and battery energy storage operations by developing and standardizing processes and identifying best practices across the fleet. The selected candidate will be a pivotal part of the team that is responsible for the reliable operation of the NextEra Energy renewables fleet.

Primary Duties:
  • Project management of all Renewables Transition to Operations activities for ROCC
  • Planning, coordination, verification, and process improvement of renewables voltage and park control systems testing
  • Receipt of and management of renewables fleet voltage schedules
  • Coordination, verification, and process improvement of renewables Requests for Information (RFI) responses for NERC and commercial / contractual responses
  • Perform root cause analysis and manage countermeasures for ROCC production events
  • Support compliance for NERC GOP functions
  • Measure, drive and maintain ROCC indicators & metrics
  • Perform quality project management & coaching for ROCC


Work Schedule:
Monday-Friday 8 am - 5 pm. Due to the 24 hour, 7 day per week nature of power generation, it is part of the job requirements to provide night, weekend, and holiday support via telephone or onsite, as needed. Travel to sites throughout the US is sometimes required.

Core Responsibilities

Technical Mentorship
  • Serve as the primary technical mentor for operators with a preferred qualification on providing guidance on substation operations, protection schemes, and system monitoring best practices.
  • Lead the onboarding and qualification process for new sites being integrated into the ROCC portfolio with preferred emphasis on substations.
  • Support Shift Leads on monthly one-on-one performance reviews to assess competency, address operational challenges, and deliver structured, constructive feedback with preferred emphasis on substations.


Operational Oversight & Quality Assurance
  • Monitor alarm management practices to ensure timely, accurate operator response in accordance with established procedures and reliability standards.
  • Support and troubleshoot operator issues with operational tools, SCADA systems, and communication platforms.


Engineering Analysis & Process Improvement
  • Review, analyze, and trend operational trips and abnormal events to identify root causes and drive improvements in operator performance, operational processes, and tooling effectiveness.
  • Retrieve and process data in response to Requests for Information (RFIs), ensuring accurate and timely data delivery to requesting parties.
  • Provide direct technical support for complex or high-risk outage coordination, including ERCOT and PMI-related outages.


The Ideal Candidate Would Have The Following:
  • Substation or High operations experience strongly preferred, including familiarity with protection and control systems, switching operations, and substation commissioning or maintenance practices.
  • Experience with SCADA platforms, alarm management systems, and digital fault recording equipment.
  • Knowledge of NERC reliability standards applicable to Generator Owners and Generator Operators.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and cross-functional coordination skills.
