Our New York Legal team is seeking an experienced, highly collaborative Senior Paralegal to join us in Manhattan. This role offers a hybrid work schedule and the opportunity to contribute meaningfully within a fast-paced, well-supported legal environment.
Position Overview: The Sr. Paralegal is responsible for preparation and coordination of all discovery functions. Investigates and manages cases to resolution within field of specialization, in compliance with all state laws and regulations, and within assigned authority as requested.
In This Role You Will:
- Prepares and sends out initial discovery package to Plaintiffs and codefendants including the answer, interrogatories, requests for production and notices of depositions.
- Diaries and drafts routine motions to move discovery along at an aggressive pace.
- Performs investigative duties including the interviewing of the client and possible witnesses who were interviewed by claims prior to suit.
- Performs as an alter-ego to the attorney, answering routine inquiries from claims and the client.
- Acts as a point person assisting in trial and arbitration preparation.
- Conducts advanced legal research.
- Interprets and summarizes complex legal and regulatory requirements.
- Prepares petitions, conducts investigations, assesses liability, negotiates and makes settlement recommendations.
- Prepares status reports.
- Provides a settlement plan of action and justification for settlement amounts to be included in all requests for authority.
- Evaluates payment histories to determine timeliness of payment and objections.
- Identifies and reports potential fraudulent activity. Establishes appropriate defenses by examining all documentation and collecting any pertinent, missing records.
- May provide training or mentoring to others.
What you need to apply:
- Typically has a minimum of 7-10 years related experience.
- Associates degree in paralegal studies from an America Bar approved program or certificate from an approved paralegal program.
- Must have a valid driver's license, an acceptable MVR and an ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and workers compensation, preferred
- Strong reasoning and negotiation skills
- Strong legal research skills and familiarity with the Internet and other sources for investigative purposes.
- Strong organizational skills / Ability to independently prioritize tasks and multi-task.
- Strong communication skills, written and verbal.
- Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of particular field of specialization to the completion of complex assignments.
- Works well with others and establishes sound working relationships.
- Works with minimum supervision, conferring with superior on unusual matters.
- Has latitude for un-reviewed action or decision.
- May be assigned to a particular project and be accountable for reporting on project status.
- Demonstrates a willingness to do whatever is asked and stretches to meet goals.
- Familiarity with Court system and civil procedure.
- Familiarity with tort and insurance practice and laws.
- Ability to summarize medical and other records.
- Ability to draft substantive motions.
- Experience with retrieval of data and adapting to various computer software.
- Computer (MS Office) and word processing proficiency.
