Job Description:

Location Overview

Cboe Global Markets operates a key office in the Overland Park Xchange (OPx), located in Overland Park, Kansas, a bustling suburb of Kansas City. The OPx business park is strategically positioned to provide convenient access to the Kansas City metropolitan area, offering modern infrastructure and a collaborative environment ideal for the financial services and technology industries. This location benefits from proximity to major highways, making it easily accessible for employees

The OPx site provides a balance of high-quality office space, advanced facilities, and an environment conducive to productivity and growth.

Role Overview

The Senior Operational Resilience Engineer supports Cboe Technology and Operations by owning and evolving the systems, automations, and processes that underpin operational risk control. This role goes beyond building and delivering automations - it focuses on established ownership of operational resilience domains and serving as a credible, authoritative interface to regulators, auditors, and external stakeholders.

The Senior Operational Resilience Engineer independently designs and builds end-to-end automated workflows across incident management, BCP/DR, change management, and compliance evidence collection. They own meaningful components of operational resilience platforms, lead audit readiness activities within their domains, and provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior team members. They represent operational control functions directly to regulators and auditors - articulating control design, gaps, and remediation plans with confidence and authority.

Core responsibilities include:
  • Independently owning meaningful components of operational resilience platforms, systems, or delivery workstreams
  • Designing, building, and maintaining end-to-end automations with minimal guidance that streamline incident lifecycle management, from detection through Learning Review and post-incident action tracking
  • Representing related operational control functions directly to regulators and auditors; supporting examinations, audits, and regulatory inquiries with confidence and authority
  • Leading evidence collection and audit readiness activities within owned domains
  • Contributing to the development and maintenance of control documentation, runbooks, and regulatory attestation packages
  • Integrating operational systems to enable real-time data flow across incident, change, and compliance platforms
  • Developing AI-assisted workflows to enrich incidents, surface risk signals, and accelerate decision-making
  • Identifying opportunities to improve operational practices, processes, and standards
  • Providing guidance and mentorship to more junior team members
  • Driving continuous improvement in operational metrics through instrumentation and observability

A successful Senior Operational Resilience Engineer brings expert-level knowledge in one or more regulatory and operational resiliency frameworks - such as NIST, FFIEC, SOC2, DORA, Reg SCI, CFTC System Safeguards, or PCI DSS - combined with expert-level knowledge of one or more critical operational risk control processes, including incident management, BCP/DR, or change management. This expertise is paired with strong engineering capabilities including APIs and systems integration, cloud automation, CI/CD, event-driven architecture, workflow orchestration, observability tooling, and scripting proficiency in Python, PowerShell, or equivalent.

Typical deliverables include ownership of a defined operational resilience domain (e.g., DR evidence automation, incident enrichment pipeline), regulatory and audit evidence packages for owned control areas, tailored automation solutions addressing compliance or operational risk gaps, and runbooks and standards documentation meeting regulatory and audit requirements.

The ideal candidate has:
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills including a demonstrated ability to write in explanatory and procedural styles for multiple audiences, the ability to effectively lead meetings in technical settings among multiple stakeholders with varied backgrounds and viewpoints, strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work well under pressure.
  • 5+ years of demonstrated computer science, computer networking, and/or computer infrastructure related experience.
  • Minimum Education Requirement: Bachelor's degree in Project Management, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Math, Business, Financial Services, or a related discipline.

You'll really stand out if you have:
  • Experience with Atlassian Suite products
  • Experience responding to, documenting, and leading technical incident response
  • Experience developing AI-assisted workflows
  • Demonstrated experience engaging with regulators, auditors, or compliance teams in a technical capacity
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, especially in a technical setting
