Full Job Description
This Sr Mechanical Engineer position is based on onsite in State College, PA. In an agile R&D development environment, the incumbent designs mechanical products and transducers as part of the development of new products related to the test and measurement market, specifically ultrasonic and eddy current transducers. The incumbent may supervise or approve the work of other designers (if applicable) and ensures an exemplary level of quality in the concepts developed. The incumbent works in collaboration with product management to evaluate and execute custom design requests. The incumbent supports or leads sustaining projects for production. Specific Responsibilities • Product Requirements and Features: • Contribute to the analysis, understanding and documentation of product requirements and functionalities in collaboration with the system architect and other disciplines; • Develop and propose mechanical concepts; • Characterize the mechanical and acoustic performance requirements of the product (standards, sensitivity, frequency, surface treatment, etc.); • Characterize manufacturing, assembly and after-sales service requirements, in collaboration with operations; • Characterize the physico-mechanical properties of materials and components (geometry, stiffness, mass, thermal and fluidic effects, etc.); • Product Design: • Define and perform the mechanical design of transducers and their manufacturing • Manage the technical risks of development under their responsibility; • Ensure that production cost objectives are met; • Oversee mechanical product design reviews; • Approve parts and assembly plans; • Product verification and validation: • Define the validation protocol for each of the mechanical components • Ensure that the design meets product specifications; • Transfer to production: • Contribute with the project manager to the planning of the work required for the transfer to production; • Provide the mechanical specifications necessary for operations and technical writing; • Ensure the updating of manufacturing documents in the PLM tool (Bill of Materials, drawings, 3D parts, etc.). General Responsibilities • Support less experienced mechanical designers working on the same project; • Collaborate with the various stakeholders to resolve inter-departmental technical problems; • Promote cross-site work and ensure an effective and open link with counterparts in other sites • Support the introduction and optimize the use of new methods and tools according to the company's technology direction Be involved and actively participate in the development and implementation of the culture of continuous improvement Education / Experience Requirements: • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Physics or similar with 5 years of design experience; Masters Degree and 4+ years experience or PhD with 0-2 years experience considered Technical skills: • Possess mechanical intuition to identify the physics problems of products in development; • Demonstrated experience in organizing and monitoring development work in projects; • Proficiency in mechanical design tools (SolidWorks Suite); • Have made a significant contribution to the development of commercially successful products; • Knowledge of ultrasound test and measurement applications is a plus • Knowledge of piezoelectric ceramics and materials is a plus • Machining and prototyping experience is a plus Behavioural skills: • Act with rigor; • Ability to solve complex problems; • Demonstrate autonomy; • Have a sense of initiative; • Demonstrate leadership; • Be open to different ideas and perspectives; • Ability to work effectively in a multifunctional team; • Ability to communicate openly in a constructive and well-articulated manner. Pay Range $80,000 - $100,000 base salary depending on experience plus 10% annual bonus target. **Many Evident positions are located at export-control-restricted work locations or require access to export-controlled information. The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location.
