Job Overview

This position will work in the ACME division of Hubbell, developing and producing standard and custom transformers up to 1250 KVA. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for developing new mechanical designs in order to reduce cost and meet customer requirements. In addition, the Senior Mechanical Engineer will work closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Purchasing and Sales personnel, ensuring production orders are produced correctly and on time.

A Day In The Life

  • Lead mechanical design for new products and make improvements to existing products to ensure ACME maintains a strong cost position
  • Interface directly with manufacturing team to resolve production issues
  • Travel as necessary to customer sites, meetings, conferences etc.
  • Create development and production drawings in SolidWorks
  • Create Bills of Material and Routings for products within SAP
  • Update Engineering documentation


What will help you thrive in this role?

  • Must have experience in the transformer industry or related field
  • Must be self-motivated with a proven track record of application of mechanical design concepts
  • Must be comfortable in the dynamic atmosphere of a technical organization with a rapidly expanding customer base with unique Engineered to Order (ETO) product
  • Proficient with SolidWorks or equivalent software
  • Fluent with SAP or similar ERP systems
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Knowledge of UL standards related to electrical products
  • Able to generate/read/interpret electrical schematics
  • Education: BS in Mechanical Engineering. MS in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • 8+ years related work experience in related industry

Additional Desired Skills:
  • Experience with the mechanical design and manufacturing of sheet metal enclosures and steel structures
  • Experience in designing products to meet seismic requirements
  • Experience with advanced design methods including Finite Element Analysis
  • Experience in automating Engineering processes
  • Knowledge of Thermodynamic principles.
  • Familiarity with REACH, RoHS, and Prop65 regulations
