Job Overview

The Field Service & Commissioning Engineer in the P&C BU provides field service engineering and technical assistance to customers in areas of installation, startup, maintenance & repair, training, and modification of Power Quality Meters, Energy Meters, Transformer Controls and Motorbus transfer equipment.

Primary product lines: Power Quality Monitoring and Revenue metering products of EIG brand

Secondary product lines: Protection & control products of Beckwith brand
Responsibilities:
• Planning & Coordination: Develop commissioning plans, review project specifications, and coordinate with project managers, contractors, and vendors.
• Testing & Calibration: Perform tests, calibrations, and inspections to verify accuracy, performance, and compliance with IEEE, IEC, and utility-specific standards.
• Commissioning: Execute commissioning activities, including load testing, data validation, and performance verification, to ensure systems meet design and operational requirements.
• Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve installation or commissioning issues, including meter connectivity, data read errors, and power quality anomalies.
• Documentation: Prepare and maintain detailed commissioning records, test reports, and as-built documentation.
• Training: Provide training to operations and maintenance teams on system operation, data interpretation, and troubleshooting.
• Compliance: Ensure adherence to safety, quality, and regulatory requirements during all phases of commissioning.

A Day In The Life

Every day at Hubbell is different and you'll contribute in many ways. On any given day, you'll make a difference by:

Performing installation and commissioning of power quality and energy meters at customer sites, ensuring that it functions correctly and meets the operational standards specified.
Performing routine maintenance and diagnosing problems with equipment. Assist in repairing or replacing faulty parts and ensuring that the equipment is operational again in a timely manner.
Providing remote & on-site technical support to customers, troubleshooting issues as they arise, and resolving them directly or advising them on the necessary steps to fix them.
Training customers in the use of EIG equipment

What will help you thrive in this role?

B.S. in Electrical Engineering, or Diploma in Electrical Engineering (required)
Minimum three years of relevant experience (required)
Good understanding of industry standard communication protocols with an emphasis on Modbus, IEC 61850, DNP and BACnet.
Knowledge of software, integration and automation, industrial controls, PLCs, and industry SCADA practices
is an asset.
Strong understanding of the power systems, metering applications industry practices and electrical
equipment being serviced. Knowledge and experience in power system protection & control is desirable.
Excellent analytical skills to diagnose issues and determine the best way to fix them.
