Role Summary
Keep the world adventurous forever by joining the team creating the next generation of electric adventure vehicle interiors. You will be a member of a diverse and dynamic team implementing cutting-edge technology and driving innovation across the industry. As a Senior Design and Release Engineer, you will lead the design, development, and launch of high-complexity sub-systems, such as Center Consoles or Door Trim assemblies, from initial concept through production validation.
Responsibilities
• Studio Interface: Lead the engineering interface with the Rivian Design Studio, developing and simplifying complex engineering criteria to communicate surface requests and technical constraints effectively.
• Design & Engineering: Create and manage 3D geometric designs and 2D drawings using Catia V6, ensuring designs meet "First Principles" and rigorous fit-and-finish standards.
• Technical Analysis: Understand and apply moldflow, formability (desired), and wrapping software (desired) analysis to anticipate impacts on part design, materials, and tooling.
• Virtual Validation: Independently utilize virtual analysis tools (e.g., SimSolid or Trim Development Tools) to develop parts optimized for durability and system performance.
• Problem Solving: Proactively lead direct root cause analysis (RCA) for component failures, collaborating with the Failure Analysis (FA) lab to implement permanent resolutions.
• Standardization: Create new basic standards and methodologies to improve design, test, and delivery processes within the Interior department.
• Supplier Management: Select best-fit suppliers through technical reviews and manage external partners to deliver high-quality components on schedule.
• Quality & Risk: Interpret and apply DFMEA categories to sub-systems, ensuring outputs are accurately cascaded to the Design Verification Plan (DVP).
• Mentorship: Actively participate in leadership discussions and provide guidance or mentorship to emerging talent employees
Qualifications
• Education: A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Experience: 6-10 years of experience in Product Development, specifically within automotive interior commodities (Door Trim, Console, or Instrument Panels).
• Expertise: Deep knowledge of design fundamentals, system requirements establishment, and first-principles engineering.
• CAD Proficiency: Expert-level experience in Catia V6 modeling methodologies, including assembly development and 3D annotations.
• Technical Standards: Advanced understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and tolerance stack-up analysis.
• Material Knowledge: Demonstrated ability to specify and argue for/against materials based on performance and manufacturing trade-offs.
• Project Leadership: Proven ability to work with minimum guidance on daily tasks and create high-level plans for project deliverables.
